The Location

The Port of Lowestoft is situated directly opposite major Continental ports, making it vital in serving the busy sea routes between the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, and the Baltic States. Handling nearly 100,000 tonnes of cargo each year, The Port mainly looks after Dry Bulks and General Cargo.

About the role

Reporting to the Harbour Master, Day to day duties will include the supervision of a small Marine team and you will make a key contribution to the provision of a quality Marine and Port service to our customers. You will also be receiving training to become a competent Pilot within the ABP Lowestoft CHA.

Ideally, you will be in possession Master’s Certificate of Competency (STCW 11/2 over 3000 GT) or STCW certification with experience in a senior Deck Officer capacity with relevant ship handling experience.

The Role

You will provide day to day operational supervision in a safe, efficient and service focussed Container Terminal. This position will be customer facing with people management of the operations staff, ensuring work is planned to optimum levels, and SLA’s/KPIs are visible, understood and achieved. You will also support the team with business transformation changes including SAP functionality role out and Good to Great initiatives.

Accountabilities

• Collaboratively drive the best operational performance for the terminal - Safety, Cost, Customer, People, Quality and Delivery • Actively manage the terminals Operational staff to ensure all management instructions are properly carried out • Set priorities for the team to ensure task completion, coordinate work activities with other supervisory teams • Put in place an effective communication process with shift staff - daily, weekly, monthly • Promote a successful Health and Safety Culture. Strive towards the companies Beyond Zero behavioural safety ambition and ensure team learns from incidents and act as a role model • Assist in the compilation and review RASSOW’s and monitor their introduction, communication and ongoing compliance • Working with the training team to carry out a regular Training Needs Analysis to ensure all operations staff are fully competent and licenced to deliver their roles

2 • Ensure procedures, SSOW, risk assessments and permits are followed at all times • To monitor and follow up any incidents and accidents. Complete and share learning from experience to other work colleagues • Taking responsibility for ensuring the Terminal’s Security requirements are adhered to as defined under the Port Security Regulations • Develop a customer service excellence ethos with your team, taking the opportunity to support meetings with the Commercial team with the key customers such as Unifeeder & A2B. Ensure Customer Service Levels are met and report on under performances or non-conformities with a proactive plan of recovery • Act as the ABP Terminal Ambassador, developing a positive working relationship with terminal visitors, suppliers and other Container Terminal stakeholders • Take the lead with Talking ABP survey results and hold regular Team Conversations with a plan to deliver necessary actions and timely interventions that will embrace a motivated, confident, inspired and safe people environment • Support SAP implementation by taking an active interest and becoming one of the ICT change agents to drive the introduction of Logistics Yard Management. Ensure staff are suitably engaged and trained to meet the technological advances in the port • Work collaboratively with the Central Planning team to ensure a process is in place for the allocation of resource - avoiding third party usage and encouraging mobility across ICT and HCT • Ensure your team is high performing - review people metrics such as sickness absence, training attendance and encourage all staff to have a PDR discussion • Support the Humber Container talent and succession development plan, identify and mentor operations staff/apprentices with potential to lead • To contribute towards the delivery of the 5 year business plan, including personally supporting the achievement of EBITDA and cost base targets for ICT. Contribute towards the collation of the ICT Monthly report • Keep up to speed with any Industry developments and good practises and incorporate where possible into the terminals operations

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Proven Operations Management experience • Business and Commercial acumen • Articulate and able to use a variety of communication • Ability to motivate, demonstrating energy and enthusiasm • Excellent report writing skills • Dealing with business ambiguity • Sound IT skills • Being able to manage resources to deal with an ever changing schedule • Work under pressure and to tight deadlines

• NEBOSH Certification or equivalent • Lifting Managers Certificate

Grimsby River Terminal can accommodate vessels carrying up to 3,000 vehicles and the port handles more than 500,000 vehicles each year as both imports and exports.

The Role

We are looking for a Deckhand to join our team, to carry out all instructions from the Marine Services Manager and Coxswains, ensuring compliance with the ABP HES Pilot Launch Crew Instructions and Approved Codes of Practice "The Embarkation and Disembarkation of Pilots."

5 This position will lead you to gaining the knowledge and experience required as time goes on, including gaining qualifications along the way, to potentially becoming a Coxswain in the future.

Accountabilities

• Assist the Coxswain with the Health, Safety and Welfare of the vessels/pilot Launch, (all on board and equipment) and shore side facilities • Respond to emergencies within the work area, on board or as directed by the Marine Services Manager, Assistant Dock Master(s), VTSO's • Assist The coxswain for the "safe Navigation" of the vessel/ Pilot Boat whilst underway and Keeping a good lookout at all times • To ensure safe access and egress and to accompany Pilots, passengers other members of staff who may step aboard the vessel/pilot launch deck either underway or moored up • Assist the coxswain for the safe mooring of your vessel/pilot launch in tidal and non- tidal waters • Give situational reports as directed by the coxswain regarding weather and sea state condition to VTSO's • Keep the Pilot Launch log up to date and Conduct Man overboard drills at least once a month as instructed by the coxswain • To maintain a clean and safe vessel/pilot launch as directed by the coxswain • To acquire the requisite knowledge and experience to allow eventual progression to the position of Coxswain • Have a proactive approach towards the six strategic pillars and be proactive in; ▪ Putting customers first ▪ Creating a great workplace ▪ Working safely and sustainably ▪ Continual improvement ▪ Providing effective infrastructure ▪ Being good neighbours

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will be from a Port, Naval or Maritime background, having been at sea in a deck capacity.

Essential:

• Efficient Deckhand Certificate (EDH) or Royal Navy deck equivalent • Basic Sea Survival • 1st Aid at work • VHF Operations and procedures (Minimum ROC) • Full driving licence • Be able to work under own initiative and be part of a team

• Fast workboat/Pilot boat experienced • RYA day skippers or working towards RYA coastal/day skippers qualification • Knowledge of ABP Health, Safety, Welfare and environmental Policies, practices and procedures • Understanding the complexity of working in extreme weather conditions • Understanding the complexity of working and covering 24 hours 365 day rotating roster • Computer literate • Must be willing to undertake and give further training as necessary

The Northern Lighthouse Board – www.nlb.org.uk – is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, established by statute to provide, maintain and inspect marine aids to navigation throughout its waters.

MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN (Oban)

Based in Oban and travelling to any of the lighthouses within the NLB estate, the successful candidate will work as part of a team carrying out maintenance, repair and installation work on aids to navigation and associated equipment.

This will involve working on a wide range of mechanical plant and equipment including installing mechanical and control equipment to ensure equipment functions reliably and to specification. Configure, commission, fault-find, calibrate and test installations to ensure that the equipment functions reliably and to specification. Training will be provided where required.

Preference will be given to those who can successfully work as part of a team and have relevant mechanical qualifications and experience. There is a requirement to travel to and stay at remote locations (for up to 12 days at a time), often at short notice.

A salary of up to £29,976 plus a consolidated overtime allowance of up to £5,244 will be offered to the successful candidate, dependent upon qualifications and experience. Also included is a generous career average occupational pension scheme.

Vacancy: Marine Officer/Pilots

The Port of Cromarty Firth is a Trust Port which exists to improve, safeguard and develop the Cromarty Firth as a Port for the benefit of stakeholders and is a self-financing commercial business.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Marine Officer/Pilot based to join our team. The successful candidate will work towards Class 1 certification for Pilotage within the Cromarty Firth Pilotage District and actively participate with ongoing projects as part of the Port of Cromarty Firth Marine Operations Team.

Key responsibilities:

 Responsible for the safe piloting of vessels and structures into, out of and between locations in the Firth, as required by the Pilotage Act 1987.  Responsible for the safe and timely berthing and departure of vessels and structures.  Responsible for passage planning of vessels in conjunction with the Master.  Responsible for record keeping as required by the Port for the arrival, departure, shifting or piloting of vessels and to the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Port Marine Safety Code.  Responsible for the written reporting of all collisions, groundings, near misses and incidents which they observe or are involved in.  Responsible for reporting any navigational or equipment defects  Assisting with planning the safe and expeditious berthing or departure of vessels.  Assisting with emergency operations in the Port.  Work within the Marine Operations Department with planning, data gathering, policy review and updating procedures as required  Work as part of the on-call rota to support the marine department/pilotage

Desirable Experience & Attribute Requirements:
