#AloneTogether March 2021

We’ve put together some small activities for you to enjoy this month. We hope you take joy from the fact that lots of neighbours across Liverpool will be completing these activities at home, at the same time as you.

3rd March is Alexander Graham Bell’s birthday. He was born on this day 174 ​ ​ years ago! The Scottish-born inventor, scientist, and engineer is credited with ​ ​ ​ inventing and patenting the telephone.

Task: Think of an invention, it can be anything in the world! Maybe you’d invent ​ something to make your life a little easier? Or something that would entertain you when you get bored of your books, TV and phone? Something that will cook your dinner for you? Write down everything about your new invention and draw a picture of how you want it to look.

The , also known as the Oscars, are postponed this year. ​ ​ ​ They’re usually in February, so we’re really missing all of the buzz that comes with this famous awards ceremony! Here’s a 60s film quiz to keep you going until April, when the Oscars will go ahead. (Answers on the last page). ​

8th March is International Women’s Day. It is celebrated each year, and is a ​ focal point in the movement for women's rights. The theme changes every year, ​ ​ and 2021’s theme is “choose to challenge”.

Task: Think of the important women that have made a difference in your life. ​ Think about what they have taught you and how they have shaped you. Take a pen and paper and write a poem about it! It doesn’t have to rhyme, or be very long. You now have your very own ode to the women in your life.

17th March is St Patrick’s Day. It’s a cultural and religious celebration held on ​ ​ the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ An estimated 13 million pints of Guinness will be consumed worldwide on St Patrick’s day!

Task: The easy task is to wear something green today! But we have another for ​ you. A four leaf clover is a sign of luck, and some people make wishes on them. You’re supposed to wave the clover over your head or put it in your shoe. What would you wish for if you found one? Write your wish on a piece of paper and pop it in your shoe, it might just come true!

20th March is the official start of Spring! Winter is on it’s way out this month, ​ the crocuses and daffodils are sprouting, the birds are singing and it’s finally much lighter in the mornings and evenings.

Task: Sit down and get comfortable with a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. ​ Take a minute to imagine your perfect Spring scene. Is it sunny or are there some showers? Could there be a rainbow? Are you just enjoying nature, or are you doing an activity, like fishing or having a picnic? Are there other people around? Are there baby animals coming out to play or is it just you enjoying the Spring air? What kinds of flowers do you like to see? Draw your perfect Spring scene.
