Hello, this is Stephanie and this is Talk, Tales and Trivia, the show where I talk about pop culture and trivia. Listen, I am a mad researcher on pop culture and trivia and I want to give that research and those topics to you for you to stump your family and friends. It is so much fun. Haaa. On today's episode, we are talking about . What is Toblerone chocolate? Well, if you've been to any airport at any point in the past 100 years, you probably have seen the Toblerone chocolate boxes...the triangular long yellow boxes of Swiss delicious smooth . Well, let's get into it. The history of it is vast. Well, Toblerone is a world famous owned by the American multinational confectionary company, Mondelez International, formerly Kraft foods. Emile Bauman, the cousin of Theodore Tobler created the unique recipe consisting of milk chocolate, including nugget, almonds and honey [inaudible] in 1876 and then theater Tobler came up with the distinctive triangular shape and packaging that was very clever. It's very recognizable...after gaining the patent in 1909 Tobler experienced rapid success as a family favorite chocolate bar standing out from the crowded Swiss chocolate market, thanks to the distinctive flavor and shape of the box. That's right. You almost always will see a Toblerone chocolate box if you go to duty-free shops at almost any airport. The distinctive shape involves a series of jointed triangular prisms. The triangular shape is thought to represent the Matterhorn and the Swiss Alps while the image of the bear, which can be seen in the mountain, symbolizes , the town of the origin. That's right. Bern, is where the chocolate originated. Tobler's sons, however, have a different story on how the shape of the triangular box of chocolate came to be. Hmmm. What is that? Well, they say their father got the idea of the triangular shape from a pyramid shape that dancers at the Follies Bergeres, a cabaret musical in Paris, created as the finale of a show that he saw. Well, at any rate produced and Bern Switzerland, it is the last chocolate still produced in Switzerland. As all other chocolates are now produced in developing countries. The secret recipe, which is unchanged since it was first developed, includes milk chocolate nugget, almonds and a delectable taste of honey merge into its distinctive triangular shape. But now there are more flavors to choose from...delectable flavors, delicious flavors, and you must try them all as I have. Well, there is the plain chocolate in the yellow and black triangular box that was created in 1876 well, the in a white triangle of box was created in 1973... well, how about the snow top edition with white and chocolate peaks in a white and silver triangular box. Filled editions? Oh yes. Milk chocolate with a white chocolate center in the blue triangular box one by one. Oh they have them individually wrapped triangular chunks. Toblerone pralines, released in 1997 - a single peaked version in that distinctive beige packaging fruit and nuts are your favorite and you say, well they have that too. And in 2007 they made the fruit and nut version with a half purple triangular box, honeycomb crisp [inaudible] with a half white box with honeycomb pieces pictured on it. That was made in 2009 well, the crunchy salted almond is one of my favorites with honey and almond nugget and salted caramelized almonds, [inaudible] and the crispy coconut with honey and almond nugget and coconut. They also make a couple of other options that are not so popular but are still in their manufacturing plant lineup. The burner bar, the 500 gram milk chocolate bar with a relief portrait of the Bearnaise bear and the coat of arms of burn on its face of the box. The only non triangular Toblerone. Well the Toblerone, how Bella is the Toblerone thins and a beige triangular box. Well, did you know that Toblerone is available in 122 countries worldwide and it is associated with 25% of all the Toblerone chocolate bars being sold and duty free shops such as Hudson newspapers that you can find in airports. The marketeers at Tobar alone are very smart and they have built it upon the brand's strong association with Switzerland and airport retail remains a major focus for this million dollar brand despite being one of the oldest chocolate brands in the world. Toblerone does not go unnoticed on social media as they have a Facebook and a Twitter site that is really, really popular. So if you want to go onto the Tober alone Facebook and Twitter sites, I will have that in the show notes. But did you know from their website, Toblerone has a personalized edition and that is 360 grams of the Swiss milk chocolate in a personalized box that can say your name or someone else's name. If you want to give that as a gift. Well they promise to have it to you in seven days and that is perfect for Valentine's day. It is definitely one of the most popular chocolate bars in the world and it is such an exciting part of going to the airport.
