Thank you for reading and please share it with someone else. Any questions? Please do not hesitate to ask. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Book of Lists Part II Last newsletter I invited participation in this section of the newsletter and I am pleased to say I received quite a few replies, so following are a few. Again, we would invite contributions for future newsletters and especially welcome unusual lists. Let there be no bounds. May even do a few least liked lists. Yesterday & Today Favourite Random 5 songs. 1) “Lillie’s White Lies” by Martin Delray…refer rarities section under Martin Delray for a full rundown. 2) “Daddy Never Had a Chance in Hell” by Roger Springer Band. They only ever had one album and it is a gem. You will pick up a copy in our $10 bin. It tells of the dad who used to drive his wife to church. At first he would wait in the car drinking his “Jim Beam from a sack” (what Americans call a brown paper bag). Then he would sit up the back, ostensibly to keep out of the cold outside.

There are Literally hundreds upon hundreds of great titles. If you would like to order from this newsletter you can email, phone or post an order. If phoning please feel free to call after hours From 8.00am up until 7.00pm is fine. I have a couple of pieces of bad news. Firstly my dear mum, Rose Reid, passed away on February 23rd. Many knew her as she worked Wednesdays at the old Parramatta store from 1990-2000 and filled in when I went on buying trips. It has been a trying period but I can honestly say she loved her time in the shop especially meeting and talking to many fine people and was a keen music buff, something that has passed on through the genes. Secondly, we lost a dear friend in Norm Pyne. Many who went to the Parramatta store would have seen a blind guy getting round with only a cane. My admiration for Norm was limitless. I never considered him handicapped in any way and he was always thankful for his independence. It is a sad irony of life that it is probably this independence which saw him involved in an horrific accident which cost him his life.

New and just in. Hillside Records Country Song Roundup $30 This is new recordings on the Hillside label with special guest and musical director in Justin Trevino. Justin is still on the Heart of Texas label and his 4 songs (of a very generous 21). I can’t say I have heard Kenny Seratt before but that is mainly through lack of material available more so than anything else but lo & behold if he doesn’t sound like Lefty, which is particularly weird on “Hank & Lefty Raised My Country Soul”!! He appears on 5 songs and none are less than sensational. What a voice!! Jerry Inman is also fine on three tracks. He was once voted the CMA’s Best Newcomer of the Year. Well he is close to the best on this. The remaining songs feature Curtis Potter, Darrell McCall and Ray Sanders in various trios, duos and solo spots. These are different to the “Texas Dance Hall Music” cd. Curtis Potter, who recorded a duet album on step One with Willie Nelson, is a superb Ray price style vocalist (as if I had to actually tell Y & T regulars) and is grand on “January, April & Me”.

DECEMBER 2014 Newsletter ------------------------------------------------------------------- Yesterday & Today Records P O Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 phone: (02) 95311710 [email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------------------------- Pretty late for a newsletter but it doesn’t matter. I have found that no one really buys from me for Christmas anyway; they buy for their self gratification and to be honest there is NO better reason. Secondly I was fortunate enough to go to the USA on a buying trip spending a bit of time in both Los Angeles and Music City, Nashville. The results as far as buys go are reflected in the newsletter. As far as quality goes there has never been a newsletter to rival this one. Don’t take my word though...check it out. In Nashville I was fortunate to see the Timejumpers and also (for the first time) the Grand Ol Opry which had commenced its winter Ryman Auditorium run. Highlight of the latter was Old Crow Medicine Show. They don’t really do anything new but have borrowed well and are just so entertaining. Vince Gill is now a full time member of the Timejumpers but they are equal opportunity employers, so to speak and Vince is an equal member. Ameripolitan Music Awards Country music, the Nashville mainstream variety, has departed so far from “country” music that some are starting to call “country music” as we know it (not as Nashville promotes it) something else. Well, the great man Dale Watson is anyway. For the past couple of years he has been promoting the Annual Ameripolitan Music Awards.
