Und auch ich verdrückte die eine oder andere Träne, als ich beim sportlichen Farewell der beiden zwischen Allschwil, Basler St. Jakobshalle und Singapur einige Tennishallen und Flugmeilen sammelte. Chiudinelli wird mir in Erinnerung bleiben als «Schweizer Nummer 1 der Normalsterb- lichen», als Stehaufmann, der immer gewinnen wollte, auch wenn die Ausgangslage noch so stark gegen ihn sprach und als eloquenter Gesprächspartner, aber auch als einer, der es schaffte, an einer Kinderpressekonferenz die Frage eines Sechsjährigen so herun- ter zu brechen, dass der Dreikäsehoch die Antwort hundertprozentig verstand. Und Martina Hingis hat mich begleitet, seit ich Tennis denke. Ich war bei ihrem ersten Profiturnier in Langenthal im Oktober 1993 dabei, als Fan, ebenfalls ein Jahr später bei ihrem WTA-Debüt in der Saalsporthalle.
