Welcome return to The Pastures This week sees our welcome come from first team manager Harry Collison. The season is now well underway, with a positive start into life in Anglian Combination Division 4. Currently sitting third in the table, coming off the back of beating last seasons div 5 champions and current league leaders. We have started well and I have been pleased with the performances from the lads, we are now starting to see the benefits from the quality that Adam Seals coaching is bringing to the squad, even our disappointing results against Scole and Thorpe where we were dominate. New signings that have come in are starting to settle into the squad and have positive impacts in games, the whole squad will play a part in the games ahead! We are also pleased to be welcoming Kyle Wells and Finlay Howe from Kings Lynn Town on a dual registrations, we hope to see these young lads progress and improve our squad throughout the season - we thank King’s Lynn Town for their support with these players. The reserves finally got to play last seasons Division one cup final at Fakenham Town, well done the North West Norfolk League for getting these finals played. Unfortunately the games finished 3-0 to Snettisham FC - all focus can now turn to the league where they have only played two games! They host Birchwood FC today, please give them your support. Our young development lads are still looking for their first win, they were unfortunate not to pick up all three points away against top of the league Upwell Town, well done to the young lads for being the first side to take points from them. Seeing these guys develop in training has been great to see and hopefully we will start to see some of these lads come through into the first team. Massive thanks to Sean and Dave at Elite Property Improvements for their continued support, they have sponsored the first teams rain jackets ready for the winter! Great work again. Lastly, a big thanks goes to Daniel Lawrence of Daniel Lawrence Plumbing and Heating for his support yet again in sponsoring all our remaining Anglian Combination league games at home! Please continue to follow all COVID guidelines that have been put in place to ensure everyoneA WARM is safe. WELCOME Enjoy the football TO at TheALL Pastures - EAT this IN weekend! Remembering John Bunn 1937-2012

By Grandson Alex Kittle.

The 19th October 2020 marked the 8th year anniversary since the passing of long serving groundsman John Bunn.

At the young age of 15 John became the Vice Chairman of Dersingham Football Club stretching to 49 years work of service as groundsman before his passing.

John was also awarded ‘Norfolk FA groundsman of the year’ for his hard work, love and commitment at the pastures.

Many would also remember him for his hilarious football presentation speeches and his dry wit.

John would spend pretty much most of his spare time down at the football field making sure the pitches were maintained to a playable standard so fewer games would be cancelled.

I’m sure John would be delighted to see the progression of the club after being reformed a few years back.

John will always be remembered as a legend to the club.

Longham vs Dersingham Rovers Saturday 17th October 2020 After last seasons disappointing defeat to Longham, Dersy really wanted to put in a good performance and get 3 points this time round. Dersingham started the game brightly and dominated the game early on, creating chance after chance. Alex Kittle broke the deadlock early on with a lovely finish. Dersignham Continued to dominate the game but Longham got back into the game with a equalizer, Lewis Curson responded straight away after he bundled the ball into the back of the net! Lewis Curson again firing into the bottom of the corner before HT. Longham made a nervy end to the game with a goal with 10 minutes to go. Longham piling forward for a point however the Dersy boys held on. A game that should have been out of sight. 3 – 2 Dersingham Goals from: Lewis Curson x 2 | Alex Kittle MOM: Skipper Lewis Curson.

UEA Reserves vs Dersingham Rovers Saturday 24th October 2020 Dersy travelled to lead leaders UEA reserves in what we knew would be a tough test for us. Dersingham yet again started the game quickly and brightly, dominating the ball. Dersy creating lots of chances but not finding the back of the net., story of the season so far!! Finally Dersy score with a lovely ball from Gino livoti, Alex Kittle runs in behinds and is 1 on 1 with the GK, he calmly takes the ball around the keeper and confidently slots the ball into the net! After half time UEA centre half gets sent off for his hands around Alex Kittles neck, bring him down, which happened to be the last man. Free kick in the right corner gets whipped in which Zac Fountain heads back across goal and Timmy Peppers sends into the back on the net.. couldn’t miss (or could he?) 2 -0 Dersy. A red card with 10 to go for Jake Wiseman see the game evened up. UEA pushing high up the pitch but couldn’t trouble Aaron in goal. A big 3 points for the boys in yellow against top of the league! A special mention must go to UEA keeper who was outstanding and kept the score line down! Holt United Football Club has a long history. It was formed in 1894 and was a founder member of the North Norfolk and Norwich League, which began in 1895. In 1927 the club joined the Norwich and District League and went on to win this league on five occasions. In 1935 the club was in the Norfolk and Suffolk League and did not suffer a league defeat until December that year, when they lost to Norwich City A at Carrow Road. Holt were also the first amateur team to play at the newly-built Carrow Road ground. In 1985 Holt United left their ground at Jubilee Road, which was sold to finance the new Sports Centre complex at Kelling Road, however this meant for one season Holt played their matches at Gresham's School. In 1986 the club moved to their new ground at the Sports Centre. Unfortunately four years later they dropped into Junior football, which was a major blow to the club. Recently the club have been in Division One and the Premier of the Anglian Combination. At present Holt United has three men's teams, the first team playing in Division Two and the Reserves playing in Division Four of the Anglian Combination. Whilst the Development team play in the North East Norfolk League Division One. The Youth section of the club this coming season will have eleven teams from Under 8 to Under 16.

More Fixtures Will Be Announced Soon Here we go again. A few weeks ago, Boris Johnson urged people to go back to the cinemas following the sad decision of Cineworld to temporarily close its 127 theatres across the UK, affecting 45,000 jobs. It comes at the end of a damning week for the film industry with the launch of the forthcoming James Bond film No Time To Die being put back to 2021. Sadly, it’s an all-too familiar story in these strange Covid times, bearing a striking comparison to the football industry, which too has been left to pick up the pieces from the effects of the global pandemic. So, the question remains then Boris, if you are pleading with people to go back to watching films in the cinema - a small, enclosed arena with very little room for manoeuvre or ventilation – then why can’t fans return to football in a much larger, outdoor, socially-distanced environment? Last Saturday, 15 Vue Cinemas – Cineworld’s main market rival – showed live matches, well attended by fans. How can you watch football in a cinema but not an open-air stadium? That’s madness. Quite frankly, I’m amazed – and mightily relieved - that more proud, well-established football clubs haven’t fallen foul to these testing Covid times and credit for that lies with the people who work tirelessly – usually without financial reward – to keep our clubs alive. But, with a second Coronavirus wave threatening to kick in and tougher restrictions gradually being put in place, there comes a point when something has to give, as Cineworld have shown. Last week’s £10m Government bailout to the National League at least papers over the cracks for a few months but, at the time of writing this, clubs are still waiting for news of their reimbursements almost a week on and with their season already underway. Indeed, poor communication throughout has been a huge issue during this uncertain summer and that’s something that needs to be addressed in any future Covid post mortem. Personally, I’m still dismayed by a lack of assistance, and greed sometimes, of the mega-rich Premier League and its member clubs during this crisis. No fewer than six players in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this week’s friendly with Wales and Nations League games against Belgium and Denmark boast a Non-League background. Doesn’t that show that football at this level is impacting higher up the Pyramid? In the week when Macclesfield Town were wound up by the High Court for debts totalling £500,000, Chelsea were spending £22 million for a replacement goalkeeper.

The History Of The Football Programme

As we now have our new programme up and running we thought it would be good to show a series of articles by the author of the book ‘A History and Guide to Football Programmes’ describing how programmes have changed over a century-and-a-half of

Setting the Scene Today’s newspapers and magazines may use modern colour print and photographic techniques, but they would still be recognisable to a Victorian transported by time- travel to 1998. Similarly with other periodicals, and certainly with books. It is most unlikely, however, that our time-warped visitor would recognise the printed word as sold to him at a football match. The matchday programme has undergone dramatic change since it first emerged as a means of identifying players in the 1870’s. Today, it is a glossy, colourful and sophisticated communications and marketing vehicle, sold in prodigious quantities and for sums far removed from the penny or halfpenny of Victorian days. In the course of this series articles, the development of matchday programmes will be chronicled, and put into the perspective of contemporary life and the game they represent. Avid readers of modern programmes may bemoan the prevalence of advertisements, but these vital fund-raisers become fascinating historical markers as we roll back the years. The local butcher, baker and candle-stick maker were present in just about every club programme, as was the local brewery, theatre (and then cinema), newspapers and menswear shops. Local industries were prominent amongst the advertisements - razor blades in the Sheffield clubs’ programmes, vehicle and cycle accessory manufacturers in the Birmingham clubs’ issues, ship-builders advertising for workers on Clydeside. We can watch local economies evolve over the life of a club’s matchday programme by reading the adverts. Trends within the game are, of course, apparent in editorials and features, while great teams, marvellous players, and some unhappy times in the game may be recalled from the playing and managerial personnel listed in the programmes. If the content of programmes down the years is varied, then so are the formats and styles used by clubs and associations. From the simple teamsheet of Victorian days, listing players and their distinguishing features, to the colourful, glossy booklets of the 1990’s - the history of football programmes is as varied and interesting as the game itself, as we will discover over the course of this season. For more information and advice on programmes and programme collecting, please visit www.pmfc.co.uk. In next programme we look at Nineteenth Century Teamsheets.
