DSPMU UNIVERSITY, RANCHI. DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY SEMESTER-VI DATE-19/04/2020 FACULTY- Dr. Melvin A. Ekka. PHYSIOGRAPHIC DIVISION OF JHARKHAND The physiographic division of Jharkhand comprises of many divisions and based on geomorphic parameters Jharkhand may be divided into a number of geomorphic domains as follows- Ranchi Plateau This is the largest part of the Chotanagpur Plateau having an average elevation of about 700 meters above MSL. It is bounded by state boundary to the west, Damodar basin to the north, Singhbhum plain in the south and the Subarnrekha and Kharkai rivers in the southeast. The Ranchi plateau is further divided into northern Ranchi and southern Ranchi plateau. The northern Ranchi plateau lies just south of Damodar basin and covers the area of Ranchi and its adjoining areas. It is a gently undulating area having less fertile uplands called Tanrs and more fertile lowlands called Dons. The southern ranchi plateau comprises of south portion of Ranchi district, Simdega and Gumla districts . they are highly rugged areas and hilly with forest areas and small fertile valleys. There are many waterfalls at the edges of Ranchi Plateau where rivers form waterfalls when they descend through the escarpments of the plateau down to the area of significantly lower height. That is the reason the plateau is highly dissected at the edges. Hundru Falls (75m) on Subarnarekha River, Dassam Falls (39m) on Kanchi River and Sadni falls on Sankh River are some of the examples of scarp falls. Hazaribagh Plateau This lies to the north of Ranchi Plateau and is separated by E-W running Damuda valley in which deposition of Gondwana sediments took place.

INTRODUCTION The state of Bihar is situated in the eastern part of India. It has a varied topography viz., himalayan foot-hills, gangetic plains and the plateau of Chhota Nagpur. The ecological niches provide excellent habitats including hill streams as well as permanent and temporary water-bodies, for the breeding of Odonata. Therefore, a fairly large number of species can be seen at these breeding habitats, particularly during pre- and post-monsoon periods. After the publication of the Fauna of British India, Odonata, in 3 volumes by FRASER (1933, 1934 and 1936), no comprehensive work dealing with the Odonata fauna of Bihar is available.

Exclusive Licensee GeoScienceWorld. Distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0). Curvilinear steep shear zones originate in different tectonic environments. In the Chottanagpur Gneiss Complex (CGC), the steeply dipping, left-lateral and transpressive Early Neoproterozoic Hundru Falls Shear Zone (HFSZ) with predominantly north-down kinematics comprises two domains, e.g., an arcuate NW-striking (in the west) to W-striking (in the east) domain with gently plunging stretching lineation that curves into a W-striking straight-walled domain with down-dip lineation. The basement- piercing HFSZ truncates a carapace of flat-lying amphibolite facies paraschist and granitoid mylonites, and recumbently folded anatectic gneisses. The carapace—inferred to be a midcrustal regional-scale low-angle detachment zone—structurally overlies an older basement of Early Mesoproterozoic anatectic gneisses intruded by Mid-Mesoproterozoic/Early Neoproterozoic granitoids unaffected by the Early Neoproterozoic extensional tectonics. The mean kinematic vorticity values in the steep HFSZ-hosted granitoids computed using the porphyroclast aspect ratio method are 0.74–0.83 and 0.51–0.65 in domains with shallow and steep lineations, respectively.
