As announced in our issue 1/05, there was to be no second publication this year due to the extensive one sent to you in April. At the outset an apology is due to the office bearers of the WZO India’s Youth Wing wwhich functioned under the able guidance of Sarosh Bana, for inadvertently forgetting to mention them in our 25th anniversary issue. The Youth Wing, which now no longer operates, had members who were Zoroastrians under the age of 40 years, carrying out pleasurable activities for themselves as well as lending a helpful hand to the less fortunate. Their activities are available on WZOs website. There are three major issues which need to be addressed quickly by our community leaders, as they have been an ongoing one since some years now. The formation of ONE world body that represents all, whether they are traditionalists, main-stream or progressive. We cannot afford to consider having three or even two world bodies when we are at the stage of Parsis being relegated as a ‘lost tribe’ - not Zoroastrians but Parsis. Many pages in this issue give the various view points of leaders and it is up to us the individuals, who after all are the people who make the numbers, to rise up and say what we want. The second is acceptance of non Zoroastrian spouses and their children, as whether we approve or not, community youth are marrying out of the fold. The third, is the very sad, but apparant issue of the high percentage of the aged and lonely, due to the young having emigrated to improve their careers and lives. We at least in the sub-continent still have a relative support system - individuals who care enough for their neighbours, but today this is not the answer. What we need is professional centres both day-care and with residence facilities. Soon there will be this same need for our community in the West and more so, to have their own centres, as family members will not have the time to look after the elderly. Now is the time to put aside egos and petty greviences and to address these issues upfront, with ‘broad, strong shoulders’ before it is too late. There is one amongst us who is a strong link in the golden chain to help others. This remarkable lady chooses Kharel to pursue her career as a volunteer to serve the needs of children in a Gujarat village. Featuring Dr Roda Patel and her chosen line of work. Daughter of Dastur Rustamji and Tehmina Mulla, Roda grew up in Navsari. Her father was a strong role model who encouraged her spirit of independence and adventure. Education was high on her list of priorities and she chose to pursue the medical field. She graduated from Bombay University with a degree in pediatrics. What they do not say is that women’s lives are also largely unrecorded. Women, and the work they do, slip through memory’s net leaving large gaps in our collective consciousness about challenges faced and mastered, discoveries made and celebrated, collaborations forged and valued. Combating this pervasive amnesia is not an easy task. This book is a beginning in another direction, an attempt to try and construct the professional lives of four of Mumbai’s women (where the discussion has ventured into the personal lives of these women, it has only been in relation to the professional or to their public images). And who better to attempt this construction than young people on the verge of building their own professional lives? In learning about the lives of inspiring professionals, we hoped our students would learn about navigating a world they were about to enter and also perhaps have an opportunity to reflect a little and learn about themselves. So four groups of students of the post-graduate diploma in Social Communications Media, SCMSophia’s class of 2014 set out to choose the women whose lives they wanted to follow and then went out to create stereoscopic views of them.

    PARSES RELIGIOUS CEREMONIAL OBJECTS IN THE UNITED STATES NATIONAL MUSEUM.^ By I. M. Casanowicz, Assistant Curator, Division of Old ^VorUl Archeology, United States National Museum. INTRODUCTION. THE PABSEES. The Parsees are the descendants of the ancient Persians, who, at the overthrow of their country by the Arabs in G41 A. D., remained faithful to Zoroastrianism, which was, for centuries previous to the Mohammedan conquest, the state and national religion of Persia. They derive their name of Parsees from the province of Pars or Fars, broadly employed for Persia in general. According to the census of 1911 the number of Parsees in India, including Aden, the Andaman Islands, and Ceylon, the Straits Settlements, China, and Japan, amounted to 100,499, of whom 80,980 belonged to the Bombay Presidency.2 About 10,000 are scattered in their former homeland of Persia, mainly in Yezd and Kerman, where they are Imown by the name of Gebers, Guebers, or Gabars, derived by some from the Arabic Kafir, infidel. persian, zoroaster (avesta, zarathushtea ; pahlavi texts, zartdsht ; modern zaeddsht). EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT: This project has been made on the topic, SUUPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT OF NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES. I have made this project report after undergoing summer training in The Times Of India for a period of 45 days. Every day my work in this training was to meet atleast 30 customers daily and convince them to subscribe for the Times Of India newspaper and their various magazines. We used to be allotted different areas everyday for marketing by our senior heads, and they explained to us the various schemes being offered by Times Of India on their products that we had to market. We visited these areas from 8 am to 11 am and then from 5 pm to 7.30 pm as during these hours people are usually in their houses.
