Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

Christer comes over sounding like Anders Eklund from House Of Shakira crossed with Mark Boals and ‘Arrival to Earth’ is the breathtaking album from South David Readman from Pink Cream 69, while the song itself Bend sensations PURE STAR MOVEMENT. PSM border on is maybe a little Axel Rudi Pell in style. The Europe meets modern melodic/progressive rock influences and is rich in Masterplan crispness of ‘Dead Or Alive’ is a good melodic, diversity and heartfelt musical passion. ‘Unstoppable’ is while ‘Human’ is a little tighter with a punchy chorus and stunning commercial modern rock in style, with the vocals solid guitars in the vein of Domain and PC69. ‘Ray Of Light’ is almost like Kip Winger in the high parts. Musically the song another catchy ditty, a faster paced song, a little Royal Hunt is progressive, modern progressive rock if you will.

Fue el sonido con el que me formé como melómano y mucho me temo que ya me acompañará en lo que me resta de existencia. Por ello no será sorprendente para nadie la afirmación de que he seguido con atención la carrera del vocalista estadounidense Jeff Scott Soto, cantante de ascendencia puertorriqueña nacido en Brooklyn, New York, el 4 de noviembre de 1965. Lo primero que escuché de él fue su participación allá por 1984 en el primer disco del guitarrista sueco Yngwie Malmsteen, en el que interviene en los únicos dos temas cantados de la grabación. De entonces a acá ha transcurrido el tiempo y Jeff se ha visto involucrado en numerosos proyectos y así lo hemos podido encontrar como parte de las filas de Talisman, Soul Sirkus, Eyes, Takara y hasta Journey para una gira, o asociado a Axel Rudi Pell.

JEFF SCOTT SOTO Damage control (Hard Rock) Année de sortie : 2012 Nombre de pistes : 11 Durée : 48' Support : CD Provenance : Reçu du label JEFF SCOTT SOTO possède une très grande expérience dans l’AOR et le Hard Rock mélodique et n’a jamais vraiment déçu. En plus d’une bonne dizaine d’albums solo très honnêtes, il a contribué au succès du combo suédois TALISMAN, a chanté pour une multitude d’artistes renommés tels que YNGWIE MALMSTEEN ou AXEL RUDI PELL, a même remplacé ponctuellement Steve AUGERI dans le mythique JOURNEY. Impossible de résumer le C.V. du chanteur américain en une phrase tant il demeure si impressionnant ! En 2009, il chante dans le groupe (projet ? car j’attends avec impatience la suite) scandinave W.E.T., que je considère comme le meilleur album de mélodique Rock de cette année. Vous l’aurez compris, JEFF SCOTT SOTO peut se classer dans les hyper actifs, cette race d’artistes qui éprouvent le besoin permanent d’avoir plusieurs axes de créativité, et dans la famille des chanteurs capables de tout chanter (Soul, Blues, Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy). La première écoute de Damage Control m’a laissé un sentiment mitigé. OK, c’est bien chanté, il y a des guitares bien Hard, de bons refrains mais il semblait manquer un petit quelque chose pour répondre à mes attentes. Alors, c’est vrai, la quasi absence de claviers peut en effet décevoir. Mais plus je rentre dans cet album et plus je l’apprécie (signe des grands disques ?). Pourquoi ? Je relève d’abord une grande variété des ambiances avec des titres énergiques typiquement Hard Rock comme Give A Little More ou Tears That I Cry ou des mid tempo aux refrains soignés tels que Damage Control ou Die A Litlle et ses guitares wha-wha.
