Program Schedule Colonel Seth W.B. Folsom Commanding Officer, Headquarters Battalion, First Marine Division

Colonel Folsom is the Commanding Officer of Head- quarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division. Born to a U.S. Navy family in Monterey, California, he earned his commission through the Platoon Leaders Class Program and later graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Internation- al Relations. Colonel Folsom went on to earn many educational distinctions like the Naval Postgraduate School and Marine Corps War College.

His vast service in the Fleet Marine Force includes Platoon Commander, Company “A,” 1st Light Ar- mored Reconnaissance Battalion and Battalion Landing Team 2/1 (January 1996 to December 1997); Commanding Officer, Company “D,” 1st Light Ar- mored Reconnaissance Battalion and Battalion Landing Team 3/1 (April 2001 to May 2003); G-3 Training Officer and Current Operations Deputy, 1st Marine Division (July 2006 to July 2009); Advisor Team Leader, Military Transition Team 0733 and 3rd Battalion, 28th Brigade, 7th Iraqi Army Divi- sion in Al Qa’im, Iraq (February to August 2008); Commanding Officer, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment (March 2011 to June 2012); G-35 Future Operations and Plans Officer, I Marine Expeditionary Force (July 2016 to February 2017); Commander, Task Force Lion (February 2017 to April 2018); G-37 Force Development Officer, I Marine Expeditionary Force (May 2018 to July 2019); and Assistant Chief of Staff G-3, 1st Marine Division (July 2019 to July 2020). He commanded Company “D” in Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003; 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines in Afghanistan for Opera- tion Enduring Freedom in 2011-12; and Task Force Lion in Iraq for Opera- tion Inherent Resolve in 2017-18.

His service outside the Fleet Marine Force includes Assistant Logistics Officer, Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Coordinator of Student Activities at Officer Candidates School (December 1997 to October 2000); South Asia Foreign Area Officer in New Delhi, India (August 2005 to June 2006); International Affairs Officer Program Coordinator at Plans, Policies, and Operations Department, Headquarters Marine Corps (July 2009 to March 2011); and Operations Officer and Deputy Division Chief for the Joint Staff’s Joint Operations Directorate–Central Command Division (June 2013 to June 2016).

Colonel Folsom’s decorations include the Legion of Merit with combat con- ditions “C” device, three Bronze Star Medals (two with combat distinguish- ing “V” device), and the Combat Action Ribbon. He holds a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs and a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies and is an author of three books. He and his wife Ashley live in Oceanside, California with their daughters Emery and Kinsey. Denton Knapp, Brigadier General (CSG) Deputy Commanding General, 40th Infantry Division, Army

Denton Knapp is the Director of the Tierney Center for Veteran Services at Goodwill Industries of Orange County, California. He is an expert in leadership and character development, having served 30 years as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army and Joint assignments. He retired honorably from active duty as a Colonel in May 2017. He continues to serve as a Brigadier General in the California State Guard, assigned as the Deputy Commanding General (Defense Support to Civilian Authorities),40th Infantry Division, California Army National Guard.

Originally from Gillette Wyoming, Denton graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 1987 and was commissioned an In- fantry Officer. He served in numerous command and staff positions through- out his military career in Army and Joint Units. His service includes multiple combat tours commanding in Iraq and Afghanistan. He served as Director for the U.S. Army’s Center for the Army Profession and Ethic, commanded NATO’s Regional Support Command-East in Afghanistan, and led programs at the U.S. Special Operations Command and the Army Training and Doc- trine Command for future concepts and capabilities.

His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership, the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY; Master of Aeronautical Science, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL; and Master of Strategic Studies, U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, PA. His highest military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2), Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, Bronze Star Medal, Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge and Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

He currently serves as the Chairman for the Orange County Veterans & Military Families Collaborative; serves as a Board Member for the Greater Los Angeles Association of the United States Army, Combat Infantrymen’s Association, and Building Emergency Response Teams, Inc. He serves on the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs National Advisory Committee for Veterans Family, Caregiver, and Survivor and a variety of other charitable associations. He resides in Trabuco Canyon, California. David A. Godley II, Chaplain First Lieutenant, Air Force

Chaplain (1Lt.) David A. Godley, II serves as Chaplain, 61st Air Base Group, Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. He is responsible for minis- tering to five squadrons and six staff agencies, to- taling 850 personnel and their families with $1.3 billion in physical plant assets and manages the annual execution of a $60 million budget. The 61st Air Base Group provides medical, civil engineering, communications, chaplain, security, logistics, personnel, readiness, and quality-of-life services to the Space and Missile Systems Center and many other Department of Defense units in the Los Angeles basin.

Chaplain Godley received his direct commission in March 2020, subse- quently graduated from Officer Training School in May 2020 and is endorsed by American Baptist Home Mission Society (ABC-USA). He received his Master of Divinity degree from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in September 2015. He originally enlisted in the Air Force in September of 1997. His various enlisted assignments include Luke AFB Arizona, Kirtland AFB New Mexico, Osan AB Republic of Korea, Joint Base Charleston South Carolina, and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst New Jersey. His maintenance experience includes the F-16, MH-53J, C-130, A-10 and C-17A airframes. He has deployed in support of Opera- tions Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Prior to his current position, Lieutenant Godley was the Maintenance Operations Center Superinten- dent, 305th Maintenance Group, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ.

Dawn Wright Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee

The Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee provides year-round support to Mission Viejo’s adopted Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton by sending weekly care packages to deployed troops, collecting gowns for female Marines and Marine wives to wear at the annual Marine Corps Ball; offsetting the cost for entry-level Marines to attend the annual Marine Corps Ball; and coordinating an annual “Day at Lake Mission Viejo” event for Marines and their families. The committee also provides emergency monetary assistance for Ma- rines, hosts baby showers for expecting mothers and recognizes out- standing Marines every quarter.
