  • The Video Game Industry an Industry Analysis, from a VC Perspective
The Video Game Industry An Industry Analysis, from a VC Perspective Nik Shah T’05 MBA Fellows Project March 11, 2005 Hanover, NH The Video Game Industry An Industry Analysis, from a VC Perspective Authors: Nik Shah • The video game industry is poised for significant growth, but [email protected] many sectors have already matured. Video games are a large and Tuck Class of 2005 growing market. However, within it, there are only selected portions that contain venture capital investment opportunities. Our analysis Charles Haigh [email protected] highlights these sectors, which are interesting for reasons including Tuck Class of 2005 significant technological change, high growth rates, new product development and lack of a clear market leader. • The opportunity lies in non-core products and services. We believe that the core hardware and game software markets are fairly mature and require intensive capital investment and strong technology knowledge for success. The best markets for investment are those that provide valuable new products and services to game developers, publishers and gamers themselves. These are the areas that will build out the industry as it undergoes significant growth. A Quick Snapshot of Our Identified Areas of Interest • Online Games and Platforms. Few online games have historically been venture funded and most are subject to the same “hit or miss” market adoption as console games, but as this segment grows, an opportunity for leading technology publishers and platforms will emerge. New developers will use these technologies to enable the faster and cheaper production of online games. The developers of new online games also present an opportunity as new methods of gameplay and game genres are explored.

Tenaga Dalam Volume 2 - August 1999 The Voice of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Governing Board - USA Branch Welcome to the August issue of Tenaga Dalam. A lot has occurred since May issue. Pendekar Sanders had a very successful seminar in Ireland with Guru Liam McDonald on May 15-16, a very large and successful seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s school on June 5-6 and he just returned from a seminar in England. The seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s was video taped and the 2 volume set can be purchased through Raja Naga. Tape 1 consists of blakok (crane) training and Tape 2 has about 15 minutes more of blakok training followed by a very intense training session in various animal possessions including the very rare Raja Naga possession. Guru Besar Davidson and his students should be commended on their excellent portrayal of the art. Tape 1 is available to the general public, but due to the intense nature of tape 2 you must be a student. It is with great sadness that I must report that Guru William F. Birge passed away. William was a long time personal student of Pendekar Sanders and he will be missed by all of the people that he came into contact with. 1 Tribute to Guru William F. • Hoovering the Hoover District, North Canton, Ohio by Lenny Siegel May, 2017
Hoovering the Hoover District, North Canton, Ohio by Lenny Siegel May, 2017 It is rare that a company dominates an industry to the degree that its name becomes synonymous with the industry. But in watching British period dramas on TV, I have heard people using the term “Hoovering” to describe the use of a vacuum cleaner. The Hoover Company manufactured those famous vacuum cleaners in North Canton, Ohio, for decades, leaving behind a wealth of subsurface contamination, including tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and tri-chloroethylene (TCE). Now the current owner, under supervision from U.S. EPA’s RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) program, is beginning a series of cleanup measures that include what is essentially the vacuum cleaning of toxic vapors from the subsurface.1 Western Factory Area from Main Street Background The Hoover property currently consists of 69.5 acres in downtown North Canton, containing 30 buildings with about one million square feet of offices, warehouses, and manufacturing space. Established as a company in 1908, the factory is surrounded by homes, athletic fields, civic buildings, and a church. Its historic brick chimney was recently restored. Hoover, purchased by Maytag in 1989, terminated production there in 2007, selling the property to Maple Street Commerce (MSC) the following year. While many of the former factory 1 Ohio EPA has also been involved at the site, but U.S. EPA is overseeing the vapor intrusion investigation. Hoovering the Hoover District 2 May. 2017 buildings today house businesses, Maple Street has ambitious plans for mixed-use—that is, residential above commercial uses—redevelopment within former manufacturing buildings.
