Bromley Pub Walk No. 1 Hayes Station to Keston Village A short walk, mostly through wooded commons, although the sound of road traffic reminds you that roads are never far away. Please read the Bromley Pub Walks introductory notes for explanation about information provided in these walking guides Approx. Distance: 1.4 miles Approx. Time: 30 to 40 minutes (see note about gradient) Gradients: There is a gradual, but steady, incline all the way from Hayes up to Keston (approx. 50m difference in level) Type(s) of path(s): Mostly gravel paths through woodland Stiles / Gates: None Road Walking: None (ie. roads without footway) Livestock or crops: No OS Grid References: . Several buses, including 119, 138, 146, 246 from Bromley North/South and 353 from Orpington, plus others Keston Village: . 146 Downe to Bromley North/South . 246 Westerham to Bromley North/South Notes: Hayes is an excellent place to start or finish walking. It still has a thriving high street, mostly built in ‘1930s Tudor’ style. There’s both a traditional café and a modern coffee shop just outside the station, plus a choice of a pub, a micropub and a club in which to enjoy a post-walk cask ale. Other bars are also available. There are numerous possible routes across the common from Hayes to Keston Village, however all routes involve crossing the busy A232. There are now pedestrian controlled lights near the Hartfield Ave bus stop (Grid Ref TQ 402652); it is recommended that you use this crossing. The Route: (Starting at Hayes Station) . Take Ridgeway (next to the New Inn), then almost immediately a right fork into Station Hill, up to the Common . Go straight across the open grassed area into the woods and cross Prestons Rd . Follow path to the right up to the A232 at the pedestrian lights . Cross the A232 and turn left and follow the LOOP (London Outer Orbital Path) signs all the way to Keston. (Starting at Keston) . The route is the reverse of above .
