Ì Der Name Rothschild ist Synonym für Reichtum: Ì In Frankreich steht der Satz "le goût Rothschild," für einen glamourösen Lebensstil. Ì Die israelische Sprache kennt den gängigen Satz “lu ha'yiti Rothschild” der “Wenn ich ein reicher Mann wäre” bedeutet. Ì Mystifizierung und Diffamierung: Ì Ihre jüdische Herkunft gab Antisemiten Anlaß für Verschwörungstheorien und diente der Instrumentalisierung in Propagandafilmen wie “Der ewige Jude”. Ì Die Rothschilds sind bzw. galten als so mächtig, dass der Schriftsteller Ezra Pound im II. Weltkrieg die Theorie aufstellte, dass die Rothschild gemeinsam mit einer Clique von mächtigen Bankhäusern den Weltkrieg verursacht haben, um davon finanziell und somit politisch zu profitieren. Ì Nachdem sie ein beträchtliches Vermögen angehäuft haben, wurde der Name weltweit zum Inbegriff für das Bankwesen und großen Reichtum. Geschichte der Rothschild-Familie Ì Mayer Amschel Bauer (*23.2.1744 - + 19.9.1812) ist Begründer der Rothschilddynastie. Sein Vater Moses Amschel Bauer begann bereits im Jahr 1750 einen Münzhandel in der Frankfurter Judengasse zu betreiben. Ì Mayer Amschel Bauer lernte als Bankgehilfe bei Oppenheimer in Hannover. Ì Zurück in Frankfurt änderte er seinen Namen in Mayer Amschel Rothschild und betrieb das Geschäft des Vaters weiter. Ì Der Name Rothschild rührt vermutlich von einem roten Schild, welches vor dem Geschäft hing. Geschichte der Rothschild-Familie (II) Ì Ab 1769 durfte er die Plakette (mit Wappen von Hessen-Hanau) und die Inschrift „M.A. Rothschild, Hoflieferant Seiner Erlauchten Hoheit, Erbprinz Wilhelm von Hessen, Graf von Hanau“ führen. Ì Seit 1783 verwaltete er das Vermögen Wilhelms I. von Hessen Kassel und dessen Vaters, womit dieser zum reichsten Fürsten im Heiligen römischen Reich deutscher Nation wurde. Ì 1798 geht Nathan Rothschild (der dritte Sohn) nach England und handelt erfolgreich in Manchester mit Textil-Rohstoffen. 1803 geht er nach London und steigt 1804 ins Bankgeschäft ein Ì 1801 wurde Mayer Amschel zum Hoffaktor benannt (höchste, denkbare Würde für einen Juden im absolutistischen Zeitalter) Ì 1802-1804 Zeichnung von Staatsanleihen (Schuldverschreibungen) am Dänischen Hof Ì Enger Kontakt zum wichtigsten Finanzberater des Fürsten, Carl Buderus. Alleinige Verantwortung über die Wertpapiere und Schuldwechsel des Kurfürsten. Rothschild trieb Zinsen in ganz Europa ein und konnte mit dem ihm überantworteten Geld spekulieren. Geschichte der Rothschild-Familie (III) Ì 1812 stirbt Mayer Amschel Ì Nach der Widerherstellung des europäischen Staatensystems auf dem Wiener Kongress restrukturierten die fünf Rothschild-Söhne im Jahr 1815 die geschäftliche Organisation des Hauses Ì Die fünf Söhne flechten ein Europa umspannendes Firmenkonglomerat Ì In der Zeit von 1815 bis 1818 wächst das Kapital der Familie von 3,3 Mio. auf sagenhafte 42,5 Mio. Franc (die Forschung konnte bis heute nicht klären, wie es zu diesem exorbitanten Wachstum kam) Ì Vier Brüder wurden 1816 durch den österreichischen Kaiser Franz I. geadelt. Nathan, der fünfte Bruder, wird 1818 ebenfalls geadelt. Alle erhielten den österreichischen Titel „Freiherr“ bzw. „Baron“ am 29. Der Ausbau der Macht Kriegsfinanzierung in London Ì Die Grundlage für den unbeschreiblichen, finanziellen Erfolg der Rothschild Familie wurde in den letzten Wochen der Napoleonischen Kriege gelegt. Der Londoner Familiensprössling Nathan Mayer Rothschild hatte wesentlichen Anteil an der Kriegsfinanzierung der britischen Kriegsleistungen in den Jahren 1813 bis 1815. Ì Zu Beginn beteiligte sich Nathan an Schmuggelgeschäften mit Textilien, um die von Napoleon auferlegte Kontinentalsperre zu durchbrechen. Ì Die Warenverknappung machte Schmuggelgeschäfte trotz ihrer Gefahr hoch lukrativ. Der Ausbau der Macht Kriegsfinanzierung in London (II) Ì Die Bank N. M. Rothschild and Sons wurde 1811 in der St Swithin's Lane in London gegründet (und besteht noch heute). Ì Nathan Rothschild übernahm die Gold- und Silberbarrenlieferungen an den Grafen Wellington, der in Portugal und Spanien stationiert war und gegen Napoleon kämpfte. Ì Außerdem arrangierte er die Subventionszahlungen an die Kontinentalalliierten. Allein durch die Kommissionsgebühren für diese Transaktionen machte Rothschild ein Vermögen. Ì Alle vier anderen Rothschild-Brüder unterstützten die Aktivitäten über den europäischen Kontinent. Der Ausbau der Macht Kriegsfinanzierung in London (III) Ì Sie waren durch ihren Nachrichtendienst immer als Erste über geplante Anleihen, Kurse, Regierungskrisen und Kriegsgefahren informiert und konnten diese Informationen an den Finanzmärkten gezielt und sehr gewinnbringend einsetzen Ì Die Intelligenz der Rothschilds zeigte sich hier in aller Deutlichkeit. Sie machten sich Kursdifferenzen verschiedener Börsen und die Möglichkeit schneller Geldtransaktionen zu nutze Ì Besonders 1815: Der Nachrichtendienst ermöglichte es Nathan Rothschild in London einen Tag vor dem offiziellen Regierungs-Boten von Wellingtons Triumpf in Waterloo zu erfahren. Ì Sofort reagierte er und verkaufte seine Börsenpapiere. Viele folgten ihm, im Glauben, England hätte verloren. Der Ausbau der Macht Kriegsfinanzierung in London (IV) Ì Schon bald kristallisierte sich das Geschäft der Zukunft heraus: Im Jahr 1818 arrangierte Nathan Rothschild einen Bankkredit über 5 Mio. Pfund an die Preussische Regierung. Die Ausgabe von Wertpapieren auf Regierungskredite bildete ab da an die Haupteinkommensstütze der Bank.     Nachkommen Mayer Amschel Rothschild Die folgende Nachfahrenliste von Mayer Amschel Rothschild wurde hier 2005 recherchiert und bedarf deshalb vereinzelt einer Nachbearbeitung. Die 1.878 bekannten Nachfahren werden von 1.224 Personen dargestellt, was auf die Heiratspolitik des Hauses Rothschild zurückzuführen ist. Premier Grand Cru Classe in 1855 & in 1973 Website http://www.chateau-mouton-rothschild.com/ General Info Château Mouton Rothschild, owned by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her children, is regarded as one of the world’s greatest wines. The story of Mouton Rothschild is that of a magical combination of soil, climate and devotion of one man, Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902-1988), Baroness Philippine’s father. In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, from the English branch of the family, bought Château Brane-Mouton and immediately renamed it in Mouton Rothschild. Baron Philippe de Rothschild, when he took over the estate in 1922, decided to devote his life to it and to make Mouton unique, producing the very best wine. In 1924, he was the first to introduce entire chateau bottling. In 1926, he built the majestic 100-metre barrel hall. In 1945, to celebrate the liberation of France, he had the idea of crowning the label of that year’s vintage with a V for Victory. Since then, a different label is created for each vintage by famous painters. In 1962, he opened the Museum of Wine in Art. In 1973, he obtained the revision of the 1855 classification so that Mouton would be officially recognized as a First Growth.     The Rothschild Bibliography Caroline Shaw of The Rothschild Archive describes her attempts to chart the family’s countless ventures into print The ‘Dunottar Castle’ from the cover of Three weeks in South Africa by Ferdinand de Rothschild Has there ever been such a family as the Rothschilds for getting into print? For me, after working on this project for two years, the question is coloured by a mixture of wonder and exasperation. Will they never stop publishing? Of course, one hopes not; but is there to be no rest for the bibliographer? It has been a long-standing goal of The Rothschild Archive to compile a bibliography of publications by members of the Rothschild family and now, 1,840 entries by fifty-one individuals further on, we are perhaps ready to acknowledge that critical mass has been reached whilst accepting that completion may never be achieved. The initial motivation for producing The Rothschild bibliography was a desire to bring some kind of intellectual order to this not insignificant aspect of the activities of the Rothschild family. It has been a mapping of a wide and diverse terrain and revealed some previously uncharted areas. Beyond this, and the greater insight allowed into the lives and interests of many members of the family, the bibliography has brought some other benefits to the Archive. New acquisitions have followed from our greater knowledge and awareness of the publications; and the ever-expanding database of references has also built up into a guide for locating material, whether held at the Archive or at another institution.
