    GRADUATION 2015 Presentation speech for Bernie Marsden for the honorary degree of Master of Arts of the University honoris causa Chancellor, over the centuries, Buckingham has been the birth place of many famous people. The list is remarkably wide ranging and includes the actress Gillian Blake, the theologian William Goode, the cricketer Wyndham Hazleton, the politician Francis Ingoldsby, the architect George Gilbert Scott and the speed skater John Tipper. Today, however, there can be little doubt that the best known of all is our honorand - the rock and blues singer and guitarist, Bernie Marsden. To most people in Buckingham, Bernie Marsden is synonymous with Whitesnake, the hard rock band he joined in 1978, playing on eight albums, from Snakebite to Saints and Sinners. He wrote or co-wrote many of the group’s hit songs, such as Here I Go Again. Following his departure from Whitesnake, he formed a new band which later became Bernie Marsden’s Alaska, which released two rock albums, Heart of the Storm and The Pack. More recently, he has been involved in some unusual projects, notably two engagements at the National Theatre for Nickolas Hytner’s productions of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale and Henry V. In 2012, he performed at the premier of Rock of Ages, starring Tom Cruise and featuring the Whitesnake hit ‘Here I Go again on my Own.’ He has also produced a blues documentary, A Day in the Delta. Bernie Marsden’s new album, ‘Shine’ was released in August 2014, reaching the number 1 spot on the iTunes blues chart.

    Whitesnake Saved my Life Cate Meighan It hasn't even started yet but already 2018 has handed me a huge gift in the form of Whitesnake tickets. Yeah I know, either you love them, hate them or you're totally indifferent. But what you don't know is that David Coverdale quite literally saved my life. We go way back, even if he doesn't realize it yet. Back to when my Jehovah's Witness mother dragged me to church three times a week and I'd play hair bands in my head just to survive the two hour sentence. Back to when I rushed to my after school job at Arthur Treacher's, where I mopped up the baked potato bar and ran the register for hours. Having to strategically place the fast food joint's hat over my big hair was totally worth it Whitesnake to get away from my bible thumping mom. Whitesnake I wasn't actually allowed to watch MTV because it was filled with “demonic groups and 04/1987 debasing music” according to mom. That didn't stop me from sneaking videos whenever possible. After tons of research by way of her church's “literature” mom had decided that Geffen / Warner Bros. red and black colors in conjunction with rock music were the devil's calling card. Just try to find an 80's video that didn't feature a skin tight red dress or black leather pants and if you somehow managed to do that then the inevitable “harlot makeup” would send mom off the deep end.

    United Artists Consolidated Series In 1972, United Artists changed their catalog numbering system to one consolidated system that included all the United Artists series and also the labels they owned or distributed. This consolidated series continued until the label was discontinued in 1981. The first two letters in the catalog number indicated the label (UA=United Artists, PP=Poppy, etc.) , followed by “LA”which designated an LP, followed by the catalog sequence number, with a letter suffix that was a pricing code.
