DISTRICT C-2 DIRECTORY 2017-2018 www.lionsc2.org October 1 , 2017 We Serve In 1917, a Chicago businessman named Melvin Jones had a vision of an organization that could provide service to those in need. Today, Lions Clubs International is the largest service organization in the world with approximately 1.4 million members in over 46,000 clubs in 200 countries and geographic areas. Vision Statement To be the global leader in community and humanitarian service. Mission Statement To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs LIONS CODE OF ETHICS TO SHOW my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service. TO SEEK success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my own self respect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part. TO REMEMBER that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another’s; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself. WHENEVER a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position of action towards others, to resolve such doubt against myself. 1 TO HOLD friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given. ALWAYS bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state and my community, and to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act and deed. To give them freely of my time, labour and means. TO AID others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy. TO BE CAREFUL with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy. LIONS INTERNATIONAL OBJECTS To Create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world. To Promote the principles of good government and good citizenship. To Take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community. To Unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding. To Provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members. To Encourage service- minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavours. 2 District Governor - Cathy Anderson Lion Cathy was born in Raymond, Alberta and has lived in various towns throughout Southern Alberta (Wrentham, Bellevue, Glenwood, Taber and eventually settling in Lethbridge). While in High School Lion Cathy started working part time for The Lethbridge Public Library which eventually led to a fulltime career lasting 36 years. She was invited to join the Lethbridge West Lethbridge Lions Club by her lifelong friend Sharon West. She never imagined the impact that invitation would have on her life. Cathy has held several positions within her club; the District and the Multiple District. Lion Cathy is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow and a Life Member of Lions Foundation of Canada. She has received numerous District Governor’s Certificates of Appreciation, several International President’s Certificates of Appreciation, many 100% attendance awards and was recognized by the Lethbridge West Lethbridge Lions Club as the Distinguished Lion of the year for her efforts at the club level and is a graduate of the Advanced Lions Leadership Institute. Lion Cathy is married to Edwin Anderson and they live in Lethbridge with their cat Lucky and dog Molly. They have been blessed with 2 children and 7 beautiful grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting, camping, reading, relaxing with friends and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. 3 1st Vice District Governor- Tyler Bray Lion Tyler was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. In 1975, he joined the RCMP and completed his training in Regina, Saskatchewan. In 2007, he retired after 32 years of service. His last post was that of Detachment Commander, Sergeant, in Turner Valley, Alberta. In 2007-2010 Lion Tyler was elected as a Town Councillor for the Town of Black Diamond, Alberta. Along the way he met and married Diane, his wife of forty-two years. They have three children and six grandchildren. Lion Tyler first joined Lions in 1986-89 in Mannville, Alberta. He held several positions including that of Club Treasurer. In 2004, Lion Tyler joined the Foothills Lions Club, and held several positions on the club executive including Club President in 2007-2008 and again in 2013-2014. He was also the club Tail Twister in 2009. Lion Tyler was the Zone Chairperson for Zone 2A in MD 37-O for 2014-2015 and the Zone Chairperson for Zone 3A in District C-2 for 2015-2016. Lion Tyler is also the Chairperson for the Lions Youth Camp (2015- 2017). Lion Tyler is the current District C-2 ALERT Chairperson and was presented with the President’s Leadership Medal at the 2017 MD Convention for his outstanding work and dedication on the ALERT program. Lion Tyler attended and completed the Lions Advanced Leadership Training Course held in Calgary, Alberta in 2015. He also completed the Guiding Lions Training in February 2015. In recognition of Lion Tyler’s service, he has received a Melvin Jones Fellow, a Lion Lionel Bird Youth Camp Award, a Judge Brian Stevenson Fellowship and several International Lions President awards, along with many Club and District recognition certificates. In recognition of Lion Tyler’s accomplishments, he was awarded the Citizen of the Year in Slave Lake, Alberta in 2000. Also in 2000 he received, from the Government of Alberta, an award in recognition of twenty-five years of policing in Alberta. In 2002, Lion Tyler received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for his many years of volunteering in Alberta. In 2005, Lion Tyler was awarded the Government of Alberta Centennial medal honoring outstanding Albertans. “I enjoy meeting people and want to help bring the FUN back into being a LION.” 4 2nd Vice District Governor – Brent Johnson I was born in Lethbridge, Alberta and raised in Cowley, Alberta. I attended Livingstone School, then attended the University of Lethbridge. During the summer months, I worked for my father in the family business -Johnson Bros. Sawmills. In May of 1990 I married Luciana Paladino, who also attended the University of Lethbridge graduating with a Degree in Education. Lion Lucy has recently retired from teaching high school, but is giving back to her profession by supervising education students at the University of Lethbridge. I have worked for 31 years as a Financial Advisor for Sun Life Financial. It is a great career and I enjoy going to work every day. My career has also allowed me the time to do many other volunteer and leisure activities, such as curling and golf. I joined Lions in January of 1990, and have served as many of the Club Officers and District Officers. Most recently, I was the LCIF MD Coordinator for MD C. To quote our Lions Pledge, “I am Proud to be a Lion dedicated to the service of others." 5 PROTOCOL FOR DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S or official representative OFFICIAL VISIT - Delegate a member, or members, to meet the District Governor when he or she arrives. - Be sure they are seated next to the President, on the right, and their spouse / adult companion is seated next to them, then the Zone Chair, if accompanying, should be seated next. - The accepted form of introduction is for the Club President to introduce the Zone Chair, who will, in turn, introduce the District Governor. - Remember that he or she would like to meet with your entire Club. Try to have all members present for the meeting. Do not hesitate to discuss Club problems with your District Governor, they are there to help solve problems and provide input to Clubs looking for new projects. Your Club may have excellent ideas to share as well. Make the meeting with your District Governor a “down to earth get-together” 6 NARESH AGGARWAL INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT Dr. Naresh Aggarwal, of Batala, Punjab, India, was elected to serve as international president of Lions Clubs International at the association’s 100th International Convention, held in Chicago, Illinois, USA, June 30 through July 4, 2017. Dr. Naresh is chairman of companies specializing in steel and agricultural products. A lifetime member of the Batala Smile Lions Club since 1974, President Dr. Naresh has served with great distinction as club president and international director. He also served as chairman of the Council of Governors for MD 321 in 1989-90. Dr. Naresh served as international director from 1998 to 2000. He earned great appreciation by achieving significant membership growth while serving as Global Membership Team area leader. He was a faculty and group leader for DGE Seminars at three International Conventions. He also served as international board appointee three times, and as Global Leadership Team constitutional area leader (CA-6). Dr. Naresh is trustee and vice chairperson of Lions Quest in India Foundation and has also served on the National SightFirst Committee. He is the chief patron of Dainik Prarthana Sabha, which operates charity projects in Batala. He is vice president of Age-Care India, a charitable society for the care and welfare of elderly people.

STARS – DEDICATED TO SAVING LIVES... 1 STARS PATIENT CARE AND TRANSPORT 05 ANNUAL REPORT Caring for the patient – The care and transport of critically ill and injured individuals is provided by highly skilled medical providers and aviation personnel using state-of-the-art medical equipment and helicopters. EMERGENCY MEDICAL COMMUNICATIONS Finding the patient – The STARS Emergency Link Centre® is a 24-hour communications centre facilitating emergency medical response, referral and transport. EDUCATION AND RESEARCH Educating the providers – The STARS Centre for Education and Research provides continuing education and professional development for both our crews and our partners in community emergency services, as well as undertaking research endeavours to enhance emergency medical response. FUNDRAISING AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS Raising funds and working with the community – The STARS Foundation coordinates fundraising and volunteer efforts in support of STARS, working in partnership with the communities we serve.
