Each neuron, however, is not a mere stardust. A single neuron integrates many inputs thereunto, so as to determine whether the output signal is released or not. Neurons are connected to each other by synapses to build neuron network, which underlies brain function. Our primary research interest is to elucidate, in molecular terms, how one or more neurons are able to regulate neuron excitability and synaptic efficiency. In particular, we are interested in studying in vitro how the versatile intracellular messenger calcium ion mediates a number of signals differentially, thereby achieving adequate regulation of synaptic efficiency and neuron excitability. It usually manifests with symptoms such as stridor, apnea and cyanosis that develop shortly after birth. Stridor is the most common encountered symptom. VC is frequently accompanied by laryngomalacia (LM) and LM is the most common cause of stridor in infants. Diagnosis can be made by flexible laryngoscopy or bronchoscopy. Surgery is the mainstay for VC treatment. Here we present an infant who had respiratory distress, biphasic stridor and cyanosis worsened during feeding and crying, and diagnosed VC. The respiratory symptoms of the patient recovered rapidly after surgical resection. This is not a common congenital malformation. Age of presentation can be very variable. Mediastinal cyst accounts for the majority of cases. Clinically it can be totally asymptomatic or it may cause severe respiratory distress especially in young infants. Chest radiograph and CT scan thorax are the mainstay of investigation. The diagnosis should be considered in any stridor in children with previous history of intubation or respiratory infections. We report a case of a 4-year-old girl, received in an array of severe respiratory distress, emergency endoscopy was done, and a large ventricular tape band cyst obstructing the air way was found. Complete excision was made, and postoperative prophylaxis tracheotomy was done. The postoperative course was uneventful with improvement of clinical and endoscopic signs. 1.
