AROTC Organization ’s ...a brief history

Participating in special teams for ROTC is a great way to earn some extra points on your OML. 17 March there will be a Raider meet on the campus of UNC Charlotte. All cadets are expected to attend and participate by helping out with making sure all things run smoothly. This will be the first Raider meet of the semester, and we are looking for it to be very successful.

Scabbard & Blade

The National Society of Scabbard and Blade was founded during the school year 1904-1905 at the University of by five senior officers in the cadet corps. The five founders of Scabbard and Blade were Leo M. Cook, Albert W. Foster, Victor R. Griggs, Charles A. Taylor, and Harold K. Weld. From the wisdom of these five founders came the establishment of this lasting society which is recognized both locally and nationally as an organization of high prestige and ideals.

The Society has become inactive on two occasions. These were during World War I and World War II, when there were no courses of military training in universities and colleges because every able bodied man was in the service. The first National Convention was held on May 11, 1906, at Madison, Wisconsin, and was attended by representatives of the four Companies which then comprised the Society. Conventions were held annually until April 1916, after which no convention was held until February 1920. This inactivity was due to World War I. Following the 1920 meeting, conventions were held every two years. This practice continued until 1940 when war interrupted the progress of the Society and all companies were directed by General Order to bring their affairs to a close. In November 1947, after seventy companies had been reactivated, a convention was called. Five Stars!

JAN LAB RECAP

The UNCC ROTC cadets completed the first lab of the semester on the 28th of January. This lab marked a momentous occasion as we activated Delta Company at Johnson C Smith University. After the ceremony the MS1s and 2s stayed at JCSU to conduct lab while the MS3s returned to UNCC to conduct STX lanes.

When asked what they thought of lab, Cadet Withers stated that he wished they had more time to practice STX lanes. He was glad to see the MS4s take charge, participate and share their experiences from LDAC. Cadet Withers also stated that “the move from JCSU to UNCC took up a lot of time that could have been used for STX. Overall the training was good, a lot of the lanes intersected, as in the squads crossed each other during lanes which caused some confusion.”

MS II Tucker stated that lab as JCSU

went very well. “The worst part was the IMT but the best part was the grenades and D&C.

While the Battalion is staying strong there are To better yourself at PT cadets should still many things to work on. Always be in the right show up to enhanced PT which is held on Tuesdays and Fridays, along with the regular place at the right time in the right uniform that will PT days. Yes this adds up to 5 days of PT but if get you by. From a cadre point of view, some things you put the effort and time in your PT scores that MSG Titus noticed that needed some tweaking will increase. If you have the mindset that was: dissemination of information from Cadet Staff you’re going to try your best at every task and finish it then you will feel good about yourself to Cadet COC, and also the communication as person and what you accomplished that day. between schools of the 49er Battalion. For the cadets that can’t put the time in to attend endurance PT on Tuesdays and Fridays Stay motivated and strong willed, and the my advice is to set a time slot in your schedule Battalion will soar to new heights this semester for those days were you plan to work out. cadets. Come up with a work out plan for an hour at least to equal out PT at UNCC. Ask friends and family to work out with you so you want become bored in the process and can create Cadet Erica Andrews friendly competition. Working out with family and friends also gives you the opportunity to learn new work out exercises, so exercising is more interesting than respective.
