(Part Three) 1961-1990 Descended from millowner Henry Taylor and wife Sarah (nee Crosland), George Crosland Taylor and brother James were early entrepreneurs with an interest in everything electrical and mechanical. In 1906, George (always referred to as Crosland) bought two cars and a chassis, built by French company Morane, at the same time renting a warehouse in Chester, with the idea of assembling and selling the French designed cars. It soon became apparent that much more capital was needed and various people were persuaded to invest in the new company, including his French associate, Georges de Ville. -

BACKGROUND 1. As discussed with the Competition & Markets Authority (the CMA), FirstGroup Holdings Limited1 (FGH) has set out below its submissions on the changes in circumstances that, in FGH’s view, would support the release of undertakings that were imposed in 19892 following the Monopolies and Mergers Commission’s (MMC) review of FGH’s acquisition of Midland Red West Holdings Limited, trading as Cityline, a bus operator in the centre and suburbs of Bristol (Cityline)3. 2. The undertakings apply to contract bus services only, where the MMC concluded that the merger may be expected to operate against the public interest in relation to two particular areas of concern: (a) The practice whereby Badgerline Holdings Limited (now FGH), having de-registered certain commercial services, re-registered them after failing to win the contracts for the subsidised services which replaced them; and (b) The loss of Cityline as a major competitor for the Avon County Council’s (Avon CC) contract services. 3. The undertakings have two principal components: (a) A prohibition on FGH or any of its subsidiaries, without the prior consent of the Director General of Fair Trading, registering a new or varied commercial service which substantially duplicates a previous commercial service which FGH or Cityline has deregistered and is subsequently tendered by Avon CC; and (b) A requirement to submit tenders for every service in Bristol and Avon that is tendered by Avon CC, and restrictions on the tendered price. -

While parked at Greater Manchester Transport’s Hyde Road depot, awaiting some remedial work, it was rammed by a GMT Leyland PD2 and the Wulfrunian’s bodywork was damaged beyond repair. Buses Scrapped, Or Sold for Scrap AEC Regent II
Buses scrapped, or sold for scrap This is our list of buses that have been scrapped, sold for scrap, or are thought to no longer exist. These buses can be considered to fall into two categories. Buses scrapped In most cases, these buses will have been sold to a vehicle dismantler or scrap dealer, where they would be stripped of any useful parts and the remains cut up, so that the vehicle no longer exists. In some cases the dismantling or cutting up has been done by the bus owner and the remains sold to a scrap dealer. Buses sold for scrap When buses are sold for scrap, it is probably the intention of the seller that the vehicle should be dismantled. Many of our records are conclusive, in that we record that the buses no longer exist. However, other buses are shown as ‘scrapped’, but it is possible that while we believe they were sold for dismantling, the physical destruction process may not yet have happened, and the buses may still exist on the dealer’s premises in either complete form or in a delapitated condition. We will update the records on this list in due course to identify any buses that we thought had been destroyed that perhaps do still exist in ‘sold for scrap’ condition. The buses are grouped into ‘Chassis Make’ lists, in registration/licence plate order. As always, if you can update or correct anything on this list, please contact us. Please note that there may be some conflicts with buses listed on the ‘To Check’ page, where this page has been updated and the To Check page has still to be updated.
