Director of Finance, Cardiff, £68,928-£72,261pa. + excellent pension + 33 days holiday The Organisation WJEC is a leading awarding organisation which has nearly 70 years' experience in delivering qualifications in Wales, England and Northern Ireland. The organisation has a turnover of over £40m and employs approximately 400 staff. WJEC CBAC Limited is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, owned by all 22 local authorities in Wales and managed by a Board of Directors. The organisation also has a subsidiary company which provides specialist printing and distribution services. It’s four key principal activities are Qualification provision (including GCSE, AS , A’ Level & vocational qualifications), Educational Resources, Professional Development & Support and Meeting & Conference Facilities. The Board has recently appointed a new Chief Executive, who brings considerable knowledge and experience from within the education sector, where change is a constant theme and the landscape is complex. This is an exciting time for the organisation whilst it adapts to changes in qualifications as a result of curriculum reforms, whilst continuing to demonstrate value for money, high levels of customer service and commitment to the bilingual education system in Wales. WJEC is regulated by in Wales by Qualification Wales and by Ofqual in England and works in partnership with Welsh Government, regional consortia, local authorities, schools and colleges. Qualifications delivered in Northern Ireland are regulated by CCEA. The Role The WJEC is currently looking to appoint a highly capable, talented and experienced Senior Finance professional to assume a key leadership role within the organisation. This represents a great opportunity to join a well -established and highly regarded organisation, at an interesting time in their evolution. • The Director of Finance (DoF) reports to the Chief Executive of WJEC and leads the Finance Function. • The DoF will provide strategic & professional leadership to support strategic decision making and will provide direction and advice on all financial matters to the Board, Senior Management Team (SMT) and Budget holders. • Additionally, the DoF will ensure sound and robust financial management throughout the organisation and, ensure the provision of timely and accurate financial information to both internal and external users. • The DoF will assume responsibility for financial compliance and the safeguarding of WJEC’s assets, as well as for optimising the management of reserves and investments in line with WJEC’s strategic plan. • Across the wider organisation the DoF will exercise strong financial leadership to influence business decisions and to improve financial practice at an operational and strategic level. • This role will ensure that the Finance team delivers an excellent service to the organisation through effective business partnering. The candidate • Possess a professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, ACMA, CIPFA) • Significant experience of working at a senior strategic level, providing leadership on financial planning • Extensive experience of providing leadership to accountancy, financial processes, payroll and procurement teams, including the review, development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures • Hands-on experience of reporting, analysing, interpreting and presenting financial information for decision-making purposes • Strategic and operational capabilities relevant to the management and development of WJEC’s financial information systems. • Management and supervisory skills – being a motivational and inspirational leader. • Influencing, negotiation, and advocacy skills relevant in a commercial context. • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. • Engaging with stakeholders at a senior level, both internally and externally • Relevant knowledge of taxation, payroll and pensions, audit, company and commercial law.
