Parish Book Study Pick up your copy of our Parish Book, “New Horizons for Christian Unity” in the gather- ing space of the church. This book was published right here in Wichita and was written by Monsignor Leon McNeill along with Reverend John O’Brien. It is a commentary on Vatican II’s Decree on Ecumenism. (FYI, Ecumenism is the modern movement towards Christian unity). As Catholics we are called to do everything possible to promote Chris- tian unity. And as Pope Francis has said, “Christian unity will not appear suddenly as a miracle, but will be given to the followers of Christ step by step as they walk together and work together.” And read together. Check the Parish Website for reflection ques- tions under the Faith Formation/Adult education tab. Youth Religious Education Religious Education students in K-8th grade continue to meet each Wednesday evening. We recently prayed a Rosary for Life on Wednesday, January 21st to join our efforts with those participating in the March for Life in Washington DC. High school Religious Education students continue to meet on most Sunday evenings from 5-6:30. All high school students in the parish are welcome and encouraged to attend! Our annual event was a great success and we realize it would not have been possible without the involvement of so many members of our parish! We decided to use a portion of the bazaar proceeds to do some sprucing up at church. We recently had all the chairs in the sanctuary and the Adoration Chapel cleaned. It has been several years since this was done and they were overdue for a refresh. The furniture in the Gathering space was beyond refreshing, so we replaced it with new couches, chairs, and tables. We hope you will enjoy using them and that you’ll treat them as your own – i.e.” they are not trampolines”. Next up, we will con- tract the quarterly cleaning of the large, high-up church windows. Though winter is still with us, we are looking ahead and making lots of plans for the coming year. Lent will be here soon, followed of course by Easter. Watch for information regarding the purchase of Easter lilies to honor or remember your loved ones. And, once again we will host a reception im- mediately following the Holy Saturday services on April 4. At this time we will honor the candidates we have just welcomed into our faith family. Everyone is invited and encouraged to join us for this special time. The Garage Sale we held last year was a big success (not to mention a TON of work). But we learned a lot and most of the soreness is gone, so we have decided to do it again this year on May 7, 8, and 9th. Once again, we’ll be at “our spot” near the corner of Maize Rd and Maple. We’re asking you to please keep us in mind as you start your spring cleaning (or maybe finish putting away your Christmas decos?). We need your items for our sale, and we can work with you to transport large items. A reminder that Altar Society helps out with the bingo games at Goddard Medicalodge on the first Wednesday of each month. These are held at 2:15 p.m. and last about an hour. The residents are fun to work with, so if you have some time to spare we can use your help. We also supply the prizes for the bingo - if you have any suitable small items or trinkets to donate we’d be happy to have them. The ladies at Medicalodge always like to win jewelry – clip earrings and necklaces go over well. And, of course, they ALL like to win quarters! It’s easy to do and that’s all it takes to earn money for our parish. We are competing with some very large parishes for a share of the money Dillons donates, so we need help from everyone in our parish. Finally, we have updated our bulletin board in the Gathering space – stop by and take a look for the most current information and happenings. You’ll find a calendar of events, as well as extra copies of the minutes of our meetings. And speaking of meetings, all ladies of the parish are encouraged to 4 A Word from Fr. Mike Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Lent is upon us. We anticipate it with a three-day parish mission led by Casting Nets. Infor- mation on this is elsewhere in this Paraclete. Then we inaugurate the Season of Purification and Enlightenment, practicing the disciplines of fasting, praying, and almsgiving preached during the parish mission. In order to help us in the almsgiving, we are asking each person in the parish to take up a commitment to provide food for the Food Pantries served by Holy Spirit.
