Eul Chief of Police DATE: December 21, 2017 SUBJECT: Oath of Office for Officer Nick Burdett and Officer William Konovsky at January 2, 2018 City Council Meeting Please consider placing on the agenda for the January 2nd meeting of the City Council the issuance of the oath of office for Probationary Officer Nick Burdett and Probationary Officer William Konovsky. Nick Burdett joined the Police Department on June 21, 2017, and is a recent graduate of the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy at the College of DuPage. He has come to the Department with previous experience as a correctional officer while working as a member of the Illinois Department of Corrections. Nick is a lifelong resident of the western suburbs and a graduate of Lisle High School. He attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Studies from Western Illinois University. Officer Burdett is currently proceeding through our Field Training and Evaluation process and is temporarily assigned to the Day Shift. William Konovsky was hired as a Probationary Police Officer with the City of Batavia on October 9, 2017. Officer Konovsky comes to us with 4 years of prior law enforcement experience, having also served as a police officer in Normal, Illinois. William received his basic law enforcement training at the Illinois State Police Academy in 2013. Officer Konovsky is originally from the western suburban area. He attended Neuqua Valley High School and is a graduate of Illinois State University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Officer Konovsky is also a commissioned officer in the Illinois Army National Guard, serving as a military police officer. Officer Konovsky just recently returned from a 31 day deployment with the National Guard on a humanitarian aid mission in Puerto Rico. Officer Konovsky is currently in the Field Training and Evaluation Process and is temporarily assigned to the Day Shift. Both of these officers were hired to fill vacancies to existing positions that were created by retirements within the organization. We are excited to have both of these new officers join our Police Department. We believe their educational and employment backgrounds are going to make them fine additions to our Department’s staff.
