O N E T O W O R L D | A N N U A L R E P O R T 0 2 By truly and deeply learning and experiencing American culture through different local tours/home stay programs my horizons were extensively broadened. Meeting new people gave me the opportunity to learn and share my culture and experiences with international students from across the globe. By exchanging culture/opinions we are like ambassadors.

In the long run, I believe we are building a harmonic world and have the potential to decrease conflicts among people from different cultures. I appreciate that One To World is doing such a great job and providing a wonderful platform!

O N E T O W O R L D | A N N U A L R E P O R T 0 4 "I really enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with an American family through One To World. Learning more about American history and traditions, and exchanging ideas and insights with people around the world was the most meaningful part of my abroad experience."

- Shiyu, China

"[Attending The Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA) at West Point Academy] was a unique opportunity... I think we as foreigners get most of our preconceptions about the U.S. army from movies, and so it was very interesting to see such a place from the inside. It changed some of my perceptions and reinforced others, but now I have more solid opinions.”

- Amalia, Spain SPOTLIGHT ON GLOBAL CLASSROOM

G l o b a l C l a s s r o o m connects New York City youth with Global Guides—trained, international university scholars—to learn about world cultures and global issues. Through face‐to‐face and virtual interactions and meaningful cross‐cultural exchange, K‐12 students in the greater NYC area are challenged to develop 21st century skills necessary in today’ s globalized world.

Through G l o b a l C l a s s r o o m , we encourage young people to:

264 Investigate the world beyond their immediate environment by examining issues of local, global, and cultural significance. GLOBAL CLASSROOM Recognize, understand, and appreciate the perspectives and world WORKSHOPS views of others.

Communicate ideas successfully with diverse audiences by engaging in open, appropriate, and effective interactions across 75PRO5GRAMS cultures. K-12 STUDENTS Take action for collective well‐being and sustainable development both locally and globally.

2019-20 G l o b a l C l a s s r o o m Thematic Units:

45 G l o b a l L i v e s encourages students to explore diverse cultures while reflecting on their own by investigating themes such as childhood, COUNTRIES beauty, traditions, fashion, music, and dance. In the 2019-20 school REPRESENTED BY year, students met with Global Guides from India, Mongolia, Trinidad, GLOB3AL 2GUIDES Canada, Peru, and Brazil.

G l o b a l C i t i z e n s h i p allows students to critically examine the world by exploring global issues and social justice movements. Students learn to use primary and secondary sources to study responses from governments, artists, NGOs, indigenous communities, and individuals. Students then make connections to their own communities through projects at the end of each program. 2019-20 programs centered around social justice, human rights issues, environmental justice, and income inequality.

To better support our partners with distance learning, all of our programs have been adapted for virtual or face-to-face engagement.

O N E T O W O R L D | A N N U A L R E P O R T 0 6 " G l o b a l C l a s s r o o m is an amazing program that helps connect our students with citizens of the world. Each visit, we saw a rise in curiosity, compassion, and understanding. Our students gained insight about life in other countries, made connections to their own lives and built relationships with the mentors. They have laughed, cried, and been inspired by the Global Guides who openly and honestly share their stories.” - Shalonda, Cornelia Connelly Center

" G l o b a l C l a s s r o o m has changed my perspectives and made me feel like I am powerful enough to change the world."

O N E T O W O R L D | A N N U A L R E P O R T 0 8 CONNECTING VIRTUALLY

COVID-19 didn't stop One To World from connecting people from across the globe:

In addition to moving many of our programs online, we launched a new "One To One" virtual program, pairing up international students and Americans via Zoom. We coordinated and planned over 70 of these programs for approximately 145 people! Within two weeks of shutdown, G l o b a l C l a s s r o o m 's interactive workshops were connecting international students and scholars with K-12 students via Zoom sessions straight from their homes. We initiated bi-weekly virtual meetings for our Member institutions with updates on visa regulations & resources to help students stranded in this challenging time.

The virus shut everything down, but its’ like we are still traveling the world from our homes.
