A 25% buyer’s premium will be added to the hammer price on each lot sold. A 12% buyer’s premium will be added to the hammer price of any lot sold over $1,000,000. 2. All lots are sold “AS IS” and all sales are final. Neither we, nor the consignor are responsible for the accuracy of any printed or verbal descriptions. 3. The auctioneer has the sole right to settle disputed bids and decide whether or not to re-offer the lot. 4. The record of sale kept by the auction house will be taken as final in the event of any dispute. 5. The purchaser assumes complete responsibility for items at the fall of the auctioneers hammer. 6. Some lots carry reserves. This is a confidential minimum set by the consignor and the auction house below which a lot will not sell. The reserve will not exceed the low estimate. 7. Absentee bids will be executed when possible as a convenience to our clients. SUSANIN’S will not be held responsible for any errors or failures to execute bids. Payment is due upon receipt of invoice. SUSANIN’S does not provide shipping services, but can offer contact information for recommended shipping firms. 8. Items may be withdrawn at any time prior to the offering of each lot. 9. The auctioneer reserves the right to reject an opening bid that, in his opinion, is not commensurate with the value of the lot. 10. Payment must be made at the end of the sale unless prior arrangements have been made. SUSANIN’S accepts cash, certified checks and money orders. Personal checks may be accepted if credit has been established with us. We also accept Visa or Mastercard. Purchases of automobiles must be paid for with cash, wire transfer or certified check. SUSANIN’S will not release the title or keys until full-payment has been received and verified. 11. All purchases must be paid for and removed within 3 business days after an auction. Property which is not paid for within the 3 day period will be charged to your credit card. If property is paid for but not removed within 3 days after the auction, it may be sent to storage or shipped to the buyer at their expense by a charge to an authorized credit card or by C.O.D. SUSANIN’S accepts no responsibility for property left for more than thirty days after an auction. 12. Any unresolved disputes arising from bidding and/or the purchase of items from SUSANIN’S will be resolved through binding arbitration before a professional mediator, not through the courts. In any case SUSANIN’S will never be liable for more than a refund of the purchase price. Information for Prospective Consignors Consignor’s Commission The consignor will be charged, 10 - 40% There will be a minimum commission charge of $25 per lot sold, or a service charge of 5% of the reserve price for lots which are offered but not sold. A fee of 20% of the median estimate will be charged for any property withdrawn from an auction for any reason. Insurance Unless other arrangements have been made in writing, a charge of 1% of the hammer price for property sold will be deducted from the proceeds of the sale. Catalogue Illustrations All property illustrated free of charge. Packing and Shipping SUSANIN’S is pleased to assist with arrangements for packing and shipping of consigned property at the consignor’s expense and risk. Any packing or shipping charges incurred by SUSANIN’S will be deducted from the proceeds of the sale. Payment Payment of net sale proceeds is made 35 days after the sale, provided SUSANIN’S has received full payment from the buyer. Appraisals SUSANIN’S is available to provide free verbal appraisals and consultations on consigning your property to auction. It is commonly recognized that in fin-de-siècle France, works such as commemorative statues and large-scale history paintings played a central role in the creation of a national mythology. What has been overlooked, however, is the vital role that 19th-century arts reformers attributed to material culture in the process of forming national subjects. By educating the public’s taste and promoting Republican values, many believed that the decorative arts could serve as a powerful tool with which to forge the bonds of nationhood. Gallé’s works in glass and wood are the product of the artist’s lifelong struggle to conceptualize just such a public role for his art. By studying decorative art objects and contemporary art criticism, then, I examine the ways in which Gallé’s works actively participated in contemporary efforts to define a unified national identity and a modern artistic style for France.

ARCL0099 Archaeological Glass and Glazes 1 OVERVIEW Short description The module outlines the development of the production of glass and glazes from the Bronze Age through to the early modern period, with examples from a wide range of periods and cultures. All aspects of glass production are considered from raw materials through to the fabrication of beads, vessels and windows. Attention is drawn to the relationship between form and technology and the development of glassmaking ingredients over time. Particular emphasis is placed upon the chemical composition of glass, how and why it changes with time, and how it can be used to address problems such as provenance and dating. The course is well illustrated with examples of glass working from the literature, experimental archaeology and ethnographic observations.
