Cleveland born blues singer Mary Bridget Davies gives a tantalizing lead performance that has been hailed by top Broadway critics as a “tour de force”, “electrifying”, and “extraordinary”. The likes of Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith are channeled masterfully through an ensemble of unforgettable performances. NYCM was honored to speak with the cast recently. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BROADWAY SHOW... Being in a show makes it hard to see other Broadway shows, but a few of us recently saw AFTER MIDNIGHT and had an amazing time. Those classic songs and the amazing dancing. Makes me wish I had more time to see other great shows around the neighborhood. FAVORITE VIEW OR FAVORITE PLACE TO STROLL IN THE CITY... We love walking around the Soho area. Some really cool old buildings to look at and some great little boutiques to check out. FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP... Fifth Avenue because it's close to my home and has everything under the sun.
WHERE IS THE BEST PIZZA IN NYC... In Times Square, there’s a great place called John’s that serves amazing pizza and the restaurant is an old converted church, so you get this amazing place to eat a really good pizza.
WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU TOOK THE SUBWAY? We take it all the time. It’s a great way to see New Yorkers in action.
MOST UNDERRATED PLACE TO VISIT IN NYC... Well, a lot of us live uptown, in the Harlem area which is full of history and amazing food. There’s plenty of tours that take you uptown to visit some amazing places. So everyone should give it a try.
