Wells is Bixby Professor and chairman of the De- partment of Surgery at the medical school. He is also chief of surgery at Barnes and Children's Hospitals in the Washington University Medical Center. The two are among 40 new members elected to the institute in recognition of their contributions to health and medicine or related fields. As members of the institute, which was established in 1970, Wells and Ter-Pogossian will help examine health policy issues and advise the federal government.
