ANATOMAGE TABLE MADE POSSIBLE BY LUBRIZOL FOUNDATION GRANT 1 2 Along with the recently renovated Chemistry Lab, Holy Name is now the home of an Anatomage Table. This table gives students the opportunity to learn about human and animal anatomy via a seven-foot touch-interactive teaching tool. Holy Name is one of only six high schools in the state of to have access to this technology.

Holy Name secured the Anatomage Table thanks in part to a grant given by The Lubrizol Foundation, which routinely supports education institutions. J. Mark Sutherland, president of The Lubrizol Foundation, said, “Lubrizol’s founders believed that education plays a critical role in 3 building strong businesses and communities. The Lubrizol Foundation continues to focus on improving the communities in which our employees live and work. We are a proud partner of Holy Name High School and support its ongoing commitment to education.”

The Anatomy Table has a pre-loaded digital library of 1,200 examples that provide true 3D anatomy in life-size scale. Students can view, enlarge, and virtually dissect donated MRI and CT scans which include cadavers, the human heart, animal anatomy, and skulls.

“The addition of the Anatomage Table adds curricular depth to the science department at Holy Name,” said Science Department Chair Denise McCafferty. “Students will be able to see and understand human and animal anatomy at a completely different level that will enable them to broaden their understanding of their current science studies, as well as 4 science-related fields that they pursue post-high school.” The Anatomage Table will be used across disciplines at Holy Name, including in classes such as anatomy and physiology, forensics, nutrition and first aid, and biology.

Our Stories Began Here: Inspiring the Next Generation Due to a generous donation, Holy Name High School ran an advertising campaign in Crain’s Cleveland Business magazine from April 2018 to April 2019. Each ad included the headline, ‘I launched my career at Holy Name High School.’ At the end of the campaign, a total of 21 alumni – 10 women and 11 men – were featured in 20 ads. A variety of fields were represented, including everything from the clergy, military, teaching, and business, to law, engineering, media, and government.

During the summer of 2019, it was decided to feature these ads in the school’s first floor hallway. The wall was labeled ‘Our stories began here.’ The reason? To show current students that they, too, will receive an excellent education at Holy Name that serves as the starting point for an even brighter future. The foundation for success began in high school for these alumni, giving them the confidence to achieve their dreams. Current students have this same potential, and can follow in their footsteps.

The Crain’s Wall was unveiled at the Smiley Family Chemistry Lab Blessing and Dedication Ceremony. It is permanently on display outside of the Office of Admissions and Diversity.

Esports Program Grows, Wins National Championship

As members of the High School Esports League (HSEL), students play video games against competitors from the other 2,100 partner schools who participate. During the fall 2019 season, Holy Name had nearly 40 students involved, playing Overwatch, Rocket League, Counter-Strike, Super Smash Bros., Fortnite, Madden NFL 20, and NBA 2K20 in the HSEL.

In December, Holy Name’s Rainbow Six Siege Team made history, securing the school’s first HSEL national championship. The team defeated Ridge Community High School in Florida to earn the title. As national champions, each team member receives a college scholarship and the school receives a championship trophy. Rainbow Six national champion team members include Leonard Cahill ’20, Rafael Castro ’20, Antonio DeLeva ’22, CJ Forster ’22, Mark Hughes ’20, and Ricky Smith ’21. Santa celebrated the Christmas season at Holy Name with more than 200 adults and children on Saturday, December 14! While creating a morning of holiday memories, families ate a pancake breakfast, danced to kid- friendly songs, listened to music provided by the Holy Name Jazz Band, and made festive crafts. Santa’s elves also helped, giving away ‘Snowman Soup,’ HN ornaments, candy canes, and ‘Reindeer Food.’

To celebrate the true meaning of the season, non-perishable items such as canned goods and paper products were also collected at the event to benefit the Parma Heights Food Pantry.
