In other words, it-4s the context in which data is taken. NOTES Information as a concept bears a diversity of meanings, from everyday usage to technical settings. Generally speaking, the concept of information is closely related to notions of constraint, communication, control, data, form, instruction, knowledge, meaning, mental stimulus, pattern, perception, and representation. Many people speak about the Information Age as the advent of the Knowledge Age or knowledge society, the information society, and information technologies, and even though informatics, information science and computer science are often in the spotlight, the word "information" is often used without careful consideration of the various meanings it has acquired. 1.2 DATA VS INFORMATION Data in everyday language is a synonym for information. In the exact sciences . there is a clear distinction between data and information, where data is a measurement that can be disorganized and when the'data becomes organized it becomes information. Data can be about reality, or fiction such as a fictional movie. Data about reality consists of propositions. A large class of practically important propositions are measurements or observations of a variable. Such propositions may comprise numbers, words, or images. Data are rawfacts whereas Information is the processed data. If the raw data is processed as per certain rules or policy, the result obtained is called information. It means that when we process data to achieve meanin^l results, it becomes information. For example; • Results summary of an examination • Purchase and sales of any goods items. \ • 'The number of employees works in HR department, etc. This can be physically represented as; Process DATA ^ INFORMATION Thus, information is the processed data. 1.3 INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION SYSTEM Information System (IS) is the system of persons, data records and aaivities that process the data and information in a given organization, including manual processes 2 Sef Instructional Material or automated processes. Usually the term is used erroneously as a synonymous for InjbrmationCotKqUs computer-based information systems, which is only the Information technologies and Processit^ component of an Information System. The computer-based information systems are the field of study for Information technologies (IT); however these should hardly be treated apart from the bigger Information System that is always envolved in. The IT Department partly governs the information technology development, use, NOTES application and influence on a business or corporation. A computer based information system, following a definition of Langefors, is a technologically implemented medium for recording, storing, and disseminating linguistic expressions, as well as for drawing conclusions from such expressions. Information systems are also social systems whose behaviour is heavily influenced by the goals, values and beliefs of individuals and groups, as well as the performance of the technology. In information systems, an information system consist of three components: human, technology, oiganisation. In this view, information is defined in terms of the three levels of semiotics. Data which can be automatically processed by the application system corresponds to the syntax-level. In the context of an individual who interprets the data they become information, which correspond to the semantic-level. Information becomes knowledge when an individual knows (understands) and evaluates the information (e.g., for a specific task). This corresponds to the pragmatic-level. In general systems theory, an information system is a system, automated or manual, that comprises people, machines, and/or methods organized to collect, process, transmit, and disseminate data that represent user information. In telecomihunicatiohs, an information system is any telecommunications and/or computer related equipment or interconnected system or subsystems of equipment that is used in the acquisition, storage, manipulation, management, movement, control, display, switching, interchange, transmission, or reception of voice and/or data, and includes software, firmware, and hardware. EsTe facto está relacionado com a nova participação de actores virtuais em televisão, cinema e indústrias de jogos interactivos, entre outros. Nestes casos, o objectivo principal é criar personagens virtuais que simulam o corpo e todos os detalhes de movimento do rosto, da forma mais realista possível. Neste artigo é efectuada uma revisão dos métodos mais usados na animação 3D. O método base do esqueleto é o mais utilizado para criar os movimentos principais, como o andar, por exemplo; os métodos base de mistura de formas são usados para criar deformações mais subtis. Em áreas que exigem um maior controlo e realismo, como alguns músculos do rosto, é possível adicionar camadas de deformação. Normalmente, curvas de NURBS ou grelhas de FFD são usadas para realçar algumas características do rosto. Os vários métodos têm vantagens e desvantagens. The three performances that I examine are: George M. Cohan’s production of Little Johnny ii Jones (1904), Eleanor Powell’s “Tribute to Bill Robinson” in Honolulu (1939), and Terry- Toons’ cartoon, “The Dancing Shoes” (1949). These performances share an obvious move away from the use of blackface makeup within a minstrel context, and a move towards the masked enjoyment in “black culture” as it contributes to the development of a uniquely American form of entertainment. In bringing these three disparate performances into dialogue I illuminate the many ways in which American entertainment has been built upon an Africanist aesthetic at the same time it has generally disparaged the black body.

Embodied conversational agents are virtual characters that engage users in conversation with appropriate speech, gesture, and facial expression. The high cost of developing embodied conversational agents has led to a recent increase in open source agent platforms. In this paper, we present XNAgent, an open source platform for embodied conversational agents based on the XNA Framework. By leveraging the high-level class structure of the XNA Frame- work, XNAgent provides a compact implementation that is suitable both as a starting point for the development of a more advanced system and as a teaching tool for AI curricula. In this paper we describe how we created an embodied conversational agent in XNA using skeletal and morph animation, motion cap- ture, and event-driven animation and how this process can facilitate the use of embodied conversational agents in the Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring. My investigation begins with an analysis of the films’ prefilmic provenance and narrative characteristics, placing an emphasis on the role of their narrative and extra-narrative components as embodying social, pedagogical and psychological meanings.

    Chapter 9 Animation System 9.1 Types of Character Animation Cel Animation Cel animation is a specific type of traditional animation. A cel is a transparent sheet of plastic on which images can be painted or drawn. An animated sequence of cels can be placed on top of a fixed background painting or drawing to produce the illusion of motion without having to redraw the static background over and over. Cel Animation Rigid Hierarchical Animation The earliest approach to 3D character animation is a technique known as rigid hierarchical animation. In this approach, a character is modeled as a collection of rigid pieces. A typical break-down for a humanoid character might be pelvis, torso, upper arms, lower arms, upper legs, lower legs, hands, feet, and head. The rigid pieces are constrained to one another in a hierarchical fashion, analogous to the manner in which a mammal’s bones are connected at the joints. Rigid Hierarchical Animation Per-Vertex Animation and Morph Targets Per-vertex animation. In this approach, the vertices of the mesh are animated by an artist, and motion data is exported which tells the game engine how to move each vertex at runtime. This technique can produce any mesh deformation imaginable (limited only by the tessellation of the surface). However, it is a data-intensive technique, since time-varying motion information must be stored for each vertex of the mesh. For this reason, it has little application to real-time games. This study investigates how the two most common methods of 3D facial animation compare to each other. The goal of this study is to summarize the situation and to provide animators and software developers with relevant recommendations. The two most utilized methods of facial animation; morph target animation and bone driven animation are examined with their strong and weak aspects presented. The investigation is based on literature analysis as well as a comparative case study approach which was used for comparing multiple formal and informal sources according to seven parameters such as: performance, production time, technical limitations, details and realism, ease of usability, cross platform compatibility and common combinations of systems. The strengths and weaknesses of the two methods of 3D facial animation are compared and discussed followed by a conclusion part which present recommendation to which is the preferable method to use under different circumstances. In some cases, the results are inconclusive due to a lack of data. It is concluded that a combination of morph target and bone driven animation will give the most artistic control if time is not limited.
