The wave of compliments that came rolling in, during and after the event, is the true testament to that. Comments on everything from the music/performers, sound, security, food, bar service, and venue/layout, to the overall laidback, feel good vibe of the members and the event itself. This absolutely would not have been possible, if it wasn’t for the numerous SDMBBSC volunteers and staff that stepped in to fill the various positions needed, to insure that ALL attendees had an enjoyable and memorable experience. From the entrance gate, traffic/parking management, Texacali Bucks sales, bar support, trash detail, set up and tear down and artist hospitality, to answering questions and providing guidance whenever needed, thanks and cheers to you! Too many helpful people to mention, and I’d hate to forget someone, so it ends up being one HUGE group HUG for the club, which undoubtably couldn’t have been showcased any better that day! Once again, I felt the true spirit of what the club is about, and witnessed how much joy it can bring to everyone, when we all work together, not just on Aug 10th, but year ‘round, as we do! SDMBBSC is a special place. Like many of you, I love this club, it feels like home and I’m proud to be a member. And all this, without even owning a boat! We did something new and exciting for our community this summer. I think we just might have to do it again next year! Here! Hear! I hope those of you who attended had as great of a time as I did! In other Club news, some of you may have already been contacted by our new Boatyard Manager, Corey Mitskevich. His mission is to "Make the Boatyard Great Again" (MBYGA), As such, we will be instituting several new policies to ensure the safety of the yard and that we are in compliance with our lease with the City of San Diego. Just as a reminder, your trailer tires must be inflated, your registration and insurance must be current, and your vessel deemed "seaworthy" in accordance with the Boatyard Agreement. Also related to the boatyard, our security cameras have been updated and, where necessary, repaired and correctly pointed to cover every section of the yard. Repairs and upgrades to the boatyard electrical are also underway. Additionally, we have received a very reasonable bid on the resurfacing of the parking lot and storage areas and expect to begin the resurfacing process in early October. There will be a Club Clean-Up Day coming soon. Please watch your Thursday updates for the date and show up to assist your fellow Club members with some minor repairs and refreshes that need to be done to keep our Club looking great and a pleasure to visit frequently for members and guests! September should be another active month. The Mission Bay Masters Golf Tournament is planned for September 1st, and I look forward to seeing many of you there! All of Labor Day weekend will be festive, so please check the Club calendar published on the website for the activities to enjoy! To keep our Club going, we have many volunteers doing daily work that we could not afford to do with paid Staff. For example, Corey Mitskevich, our Yard Manager who replaced Phil Erickson in July and who did an outstanding job, has updated boat inventory and is steadily working on yard and storage improvements to increase our revenue. Christopher Dale performs and finds others to entertain us. Maria Potter-Wood is always making improvements and maintaining flowers and patio furniture. Ron George leads and others provide for the Blind Ski events five times per year. Kevin Peterson manages the Bar and continues to provide new beverages. Tanya is again leading volunteers for our clean-up day. Wow! I realize these are only a few examples of what our volunteers do but there is not enough room to mention them all. On behalf of the Commodore, Officers, Board, and members know that you are VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. Without volunteers, the Club would not exist. For our paid Bar and Galley staff, you too make this Club a most welcome and enjoyable place to visit and enjoy. THANK YOU all! Jack Porath, First Vice Commodore As we are all getting over all the fun activities in August, now we are looking forward to the festivities planned for the Labor Day weekend and September! Have a staycation and enjoy the holiday at your Club. The popular, annual end of Summer Luau will be on September 28, starting at 4:30pm, dinner will be at 5:30pm. Please come and enjoy awesome Kalua Pig and Huli Huli Chicken, along with a variety of sides. For questions or contributions for the drawings contact Paula Goleta at 619-952-4713. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! The eighth annual Casino Night will be on Saturday, November 2. The committee has started requesting donations from local businesses and members. We are working on putting together gift baskets, so, we need baskets items or you may want to donate your own gift basket. Also needed, are awesome items for the silent auctions. Cash contributions are welcomed. I hope you all like our new lawn furniture; it took a village to pay and pick them up at various Dixieline stores, and to assemble one table and four chairs. A huge thanks to Rich Baker and Jonathon Morton for assembling the table and four chairs, Jim Dutton for picking up two sets in Escondido and one in Miramar Road Dixieline, and Jon Schoen and Mike Wood for picking up one set in El Cajon and one in Kearny Mesa. I would like to remind you that the flower pots in the patio ARE NOT ASHTRAYS. The materials in cigarette butts are very toxic and will damage or kill plants. I would like to think that members are not doing this, so, keep an eye on your guests. You are responsible for your guests’ behavior. Cheers to a fun, happy and safe September! Maria Potter-Wood.
