The Commonwealth of Massachusetts —— DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES ORDER OF NOTICE May 12, 2016 Town of Berlin, D.P.U. 16-45 Town of Millville, D.P.U. 16-46 Town of Bernardston, D.P.U. 16-47 Town of Egremont, D.P.U. 16-48 Town of Wendell, D.P.U. 16-49 Town of Sandisfield, D.P.U. 16-50 Town of Salisbury, D.P.U. 16-51 Petitions of the Towns of Berlin, Millville, Bernardston, Egremont, Wendell, Sandisfield, and Salisbury for approval of municipal aggregation plans pursuant to G.L. c. 164, § 134. ____________________________________________________________________________ The Towns of Berlin, Millville, Bernardston, Egremont, Wendell, Sandisfield, and Salisbury (collectively “Municipalities”) shall, (1) no later than June 1, 2016, publish the attached Notice of Public Hearing and Request for Comments in either The Boston Globe or The Boston Herald; and (2) post a copy of the attached notice in a conspicuous location in its Town Hall. In addition, the Towns of Berlin and Millville shall, no later than June 1, 2016, publish the attached notice in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette or the MetroWest Daily News. The Towns of Bernardston and Sandisfield shall, no later than June 1, 2016, publish the attached notice in the Berkshire Eagle. The Towns of Egremont and Wendell shall, no later than June 1, 2016, publish the attached notice in the Daily Hampshire Gazette. The Town of Salisbury shall, no later than June 1, 2016, publish the attached notice in the Daily News of Newburyport. Each Municipality shall prominently display the notice on its respective website from 14 days following receipt of the notice from the Department through the end of the comment period. The Framingham State Normal School, a free public school and the first of its kind in America, is represented by the structure at the top of the design. Governor Danforth, the founder of Framingham and owner of much of its land, is acknowledged by the words “Danforth’s Farms 1662” on the shield at the center. The wheel on the shield with spokes drawn as tracks radiating in six different directions represents the steam and electric railroads and signifies the Town’s position as a transportation hub. Surrounding the words “Town of Framingham Incorporated 1700” is an illustrative border of straw braid, which honors the prominent role Framingham played in the manufacture of hats and bonnets in the 1800s. Be the first of your friends. ASHLAND — Some say Mary giggles, casts shadows and disappears into walls. Some say she's a figment of overactive imaginations or perhaps a marketing ploy. Liesa Healy-Miller wasn't out to prove whether or not Mary's ghost is actually roaming around Stone's Public House. She just wanted to see if Mary was real. "I had heard about the reported hauntings at John Stone's even before I moved out to Framingham" seven years ago, said Healy- Miller. "I've read accounts over the years," and talked with staff while dining at the Ashland restaurant. When she saw a promo last weekend for the Discovery channel's "Ghost Lab" that included a feature on Stone's Public House, "I said, there's no better time to answer some questions for myself." Was there any evidence a girl named Mary was hit by a train and taken to die in the inn only steps away from the tracks? "Being a skeptic, I was fully prepared to learn this never happened," said genealogist Healy-Miller. "I thought it was a colorful myth. Imagine my surprise to find a death record for this little girl," the one named Mary J. Smith. Healy-Miller said she found a record of Mary's death in the Ashland town clerk's office, and "there is also a record at the Massachusetts State Archives" in Dorchester.
