La actividad arqueológica promovida por el futuro paso del AVE por este lugar ha permitido localizar una serie de villae romanas en la zona norte del municipio, de la que hasta ahora carecíamos de datos arqueológicos. ABSTRACT The actual lands of Archidona municipality have a great archaeological potential wich we don’t know much information today. The archaeological activity made because of the AVE railway course works at these places have documented several roman villae in the north area of this municipality. Ocupando la zona oriental de la Depresión antequerana nos encontramos con las tierras del actual municipio de Archidona integrado en la cuenca del Guadalhorce Alto, con un territorio marcado por campos de olivar y dehesas sembradas de cereal. El municipio está ubicado entre la Cordillera Subbética al norte y la cordillera Penibética al sur, interrumpiendo el Surco Intrabético al cortar la comunicación entre las Vegas de Antequera y Archidona por una parte, y la de Loja por otra. La única zona que no pertenece a esta cuenca es la oriental, la zona denominada Los Hoyos, que constituye una penillanura en- dorreica sin salida natural para sus aguas, con dos superficies húmedas como son las lagunas Grande y Chica, y numerosos lugares donde se producen en- charcamientos de origen pluvial. La zona que, a priori, se presenta con las características físicas mejores para el poblamiento humano es la marcada por la Sierra de Archidona.

The demographic vitality of Malaga is enviable, not only in comparison with regions in the north with evident population decline, but also with other provinces in Andalucía. However, this does not mean that Malaga doesn't have problems of its own to resolve. The imbalance between a coast which is becoming very populated and rural areas which are losing inhabitants is a very important challenge.
