It certainly has been lovely to have classrooms filled with students again. After their third school Covid test on Monday 22nd March, your son/daughter will be given two home test kits to bring home. Each pack contains 3 tests. Advice from the government is that the leaflet in the box is out of date and students/parents should refer to the blue leaflet handed out separately to students. Please supervise your children when they take the test. They will need to swab their throat and their nose, which is different to the swabbing in school, which has been nasal swabbing only. Going forward we will continue with the mass testing in school on a Monday whilst school is in session and your son/daughter must test once a week at home on a Wednesday evening/Thursday morning before school. The Government guidelines are for students to test weekly at home, but we feel very strongly that we will be keeping our community safer by continuing to take administer one of the tests in school for as long as we are able to do so. It is a requirement that either yourselves or the students (if responsible enough), log the test result from the home testing as follows: 1. Report the test result online at www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result 2. And report the test result to the school by completing this Microsoft Form using this link. You or your child will need to use your child’s Microsoft login. The Government guidelines are that students must upload the results to both the government website and the school after every home test. A copy of this letter will be available on the school website together with the link to the form. During the Easter Holidays the Government expectation is that students would test twice at home, on a Monday and on a Thursday. We will continue with in school mass testing when the pupils return to school on Monday 19th April. If your child tests positive, then the household and anyone in your support bubble must isolate following government guidelines. Self-isolation and treating coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms - NHS (www.nhs.uk). Current government guidance states that you must also arrange a PCR test for the person that tested positive where a test is carried out at home.     Nova Weekly News Issue 27 Friday 23rd June 2017 Message from the Principal Yesterday afternoon saw the final GCSE examination of the season take place and we would like to thank all of our Year 11 students for their outstanding conduct throughout the examination season. Although the GCSE exams are done, our wonderful Year 11 students are not forgotten and we very much look forward to seeing them for the Thorpe Park Trip on 27th June, Leavers’ Assembly on 29th June and the Prom on the evening of 7th July. GCSE results will be released on Thursday 24th August and staff will be on hand to celebrate with Year 11 and offer support and guidance. Looking a little further over the horizon, we are looking forward to welcoming them back to Nova Hreod for GCSE Certificate Presentation Evening which we are pleased to announce will take place on the evening of Thursday 16th November 2017. This is always a very special evening and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the students. With one cohort of students leaving, it was a pleasure to welcome the parents and carers of the new students who will be joining us in September, when they came into school last Thursday for transition evening. We have 170 new students joining us in September from primary schools all across the town, and we are very much looking forward to building warm and strong relationships with all our new parents over the coming months.     Nova News Issue 11 w/c 3rd June 2019 Message from the Headteacher Summer is here. Gardens are in bloom and so are the students at Nova Hreod - as you’ll see in the pages of this newsletter. Our gardening team have been working hard on improving the area they have at the side of the school which has got better and better since September. Likewise, our young athletes have outperformed their own personal bests. We have also had pupils working hard to shine in table tennis and chess. Over the last few weeks, our Year 11 students have really been pushing themselves in their GCSEs. We are looking forward to seeing great commitment too from Year 7-10 pupils as they begin their second set of SPR examinations in the next couple of weeks. Nick Wells Headteacher Swindon Athletics Trials A group of athletes competed at the County Ground against students from across the town to qualify for the Swindon athletics team. The standard was very high and all the students performed exceptionally well, and we are delighted to announce that seven students met the standard to represent Swindon in the next round before hopefully progressing to represent the South West. The seven students are all in the top two in Swindon for their events (with Tyrique and Tiya qualifying for three events each); this is an amazing achievement and we are very proud of them. Well done to everyone that qualified for the trials, and congratulations to the students for their success. Table Tennis Competition A Year 11 Nova team took part in a Table Tennis Competition against other schools at Swindon Academy.

    Kingsdown School “Innovative Education, Traditional Values” InTouch Newsletter 2/December 2017 Dear Parents / Carers Welcome to our end of Term 2 InTouch magazine. Term 2 for our school has flown by. That said, there have been many significant milestones and achievements for everyone associated with the school. Together we have successfully: Embedded our new and improved Behaviour for Learning Policy. Developed the profile of our Attendance strategy which has led to a 5% increase in our whole school statistic. Completed a highly successful two week Year 11 Mock Examination period. Indeed on day one Year 11 attendance was 97.2%. We have been delighted to be able to continue to say that we are fully staffed with fully qualified and highly experienced staff. In January we welcome Miss Winwood to our PE team, Mrs Hamilton to our Maths team & we welcome back Mrs Green from her maternity leave. We have continued our ongoing focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning. Every teacher has been observed and received high quality and personalised feedback in supporting them to further develop their practice. We have developed our links with our local networks. I have met several times with our Cluster Primary Heads and have met termly with our local Secondary Headteachers. Additionally the support and challenge from the RLT has had a significant impact upon further developing and deepening the quality of provision for all. Throughout September – December we have hosted a number of high profile events – most notably the Literature Festival as well as numerous sporting events. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our teachers and support staff at Kingsdown School.

    SWINDON ACADEMY POLICIES Admissions Policy for 2021-22 (L08) 1. General 1.1 This policy may be amended in writing at any time if United Learning is directed by the Secretary of State. 1.2 United Learning will act in accordance with, and will ensure that the Independent Appeal Panel is trained to act in accordance with, all relevant provisions of the School Admissions Code and the School Admission Appeals Code published by the Department for Education (“the Codes”) as they apply at any given time to maintained schools and with equalities law and the law on admissions as they apply to maintained schools. For this purpose, reference in the Codes or law to “admission authorities” shall be deemed to be references to United Learning. 1.3 Notwithstanding any provision in this Agreement, the Secretary of State may: 1.3.1 direct United Learning to admit a named pupil to Swindon Academy on application from a local authority. Before doing so the Secretary of State will consult United Learning. 1.3.2 direct United Learning to admit a named pupil to Swindon Academy if United Learning has failed to act in accordance with this policy or has otherwise failed to comply with applicable admissions and equalities legislation or the provisions of the Codes. 1.4 United Learning shall ensure that parents and ‘relevant children’ will have the right of appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel if they are dissatisfied with an admission decision of United Learning. The Independent Appeal Panel will be independent of United Learning. The arrangements for appeals will comply with the School Admission Appeals Code published by the Department for Education as it applies to Foundation and Voluntary Aided schools.
