The third OBPC exhibition opened on March 23, 2013, and will run through February 23, 2014. Carole Feuerman, who participated in our interviews last autumn, created the work General's Daughter for this competition. Now I live in Soho and in Fort Lauderdale. Q: What medium(s) do you work with? A: I work with a variety of mediums, including bronze, resin, marble, and paints of all kinds, as well as printmaking, photography, and video. Q: Tell us about your technique and creative process. A: My work never just mimics the human body. I want the work to take the body to another level. The model’s emotions embody the story that I am trying to tell. After a model poses for me, I both sculpt and life cast a sculpture of his or her body as a starting point.

  • Thordis Adalsteinsdottir Woman and Cat Lounging 2002, Acrylic on Wood, 48 X 48 Inches B.1975, Iceland
Thordis Adalsteinsdottir Woman and Cat Lounging 2002, acrylic on wood, 48 x 48 inches B.1975, Iceland Þórdís Aðalsteinsdóttir (as it is written in Icelandic) was born in Iceland and studied in Reykjavík and New York, where she graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2003. Though fresh out of school, her work attracted attention and review. Writing in Art in America, Gregory Volk wrote that Adalsteinsdottir’s paintings “quietly communicate a range of emotions or states of being, from painful loneliness to introspection, eroticism, whimsy and bliss”. Her painting’s subjects—both human and animal—are often represented by unsettling distortions of their natural forms, and they inhabit a bizarre zone somewhere between realist figuration, cartoons, anime and pure fantasy. There is a great deal of drama in the situations she portrays, but it is narrated with dry disassociation. The figures in her paintings are often inactive but seem to be seething with pent-up emotion. Solo exhibitions: The Reykjavik Art Museum, the Knoxville Museum of Art, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Oslo, Den Frie Udstilling, Copenhagen, Konstakademien, Stockholm, and the Royal College of Art in London. In 2008, Adalsteinsdottir was a finalist for the prestigious Carnegie Art Award for Nordic Painting. The Icelandic-born artist now lives and works in New York City and was a recipient of the 2012 NYFA fellowship grant. Emil Alzamora Longue Dureé 2014, gypsum, 49 x 13 x 13 inches B. 1975, Lima, Peru Emil Alzamora moved with his family to Boca Grande, Florida when he was two. Alzamora harnesses a wide range of materials and techniques to deliver unexpected interpretations of the sculpted human figure.

NETAPP INSTALLS MONUMENTAL SCULPTURE FOR CITY OF SUNNYVALE Public Unveiling and Dedication on Friday, May 30 at 2:00pm Sunnyvale, CA – Soaring 25 feet into the Sunnyvale sky, Double Diver by New York sculptor Carole A. Feuerman is the latest art installation for the citizens of Sunnyvale, California. It is a sight to behold! The gravity-defying bronze sculpture is both a remarkable artwork and an incredible feat of engineering. Composed of --MORE-- PAGE 2. NetApp Installs Monumental Sculpture for City of Sunnyvale two monumental divers connected at a tenuous junction (the top figure rests its hands around the ankles of the lower diver), the sculpture’s dynamic “S” curve is revealed from its dramatic side views. The form is a perfect example of what eighteenth-century art theorist William Hogarth called 'the line of beauty': that curving, serpentine silhouette found in all things naturally beautiful. Within the bronze is a substantial stainless steel matrix that anchors the 2-1/2 tons of bronze. But for the viewer, the mystery remains of how the huge, graceful piece stands on the two six-inch wrists and hands of the lower figure. Carole A. Feuerman is recognized worldwide for her unparalleled sculpting of the human form and has received international recognition for her art in public places. Her prolific career spans four decades with works included in public, museum, and private collections around the world.

2020–2021 ABOUT Dear Friends, The Berkshire Mountains are ablaze with color this autumn and the crisp air offers hope for a strong and vibrant perspective as 2020 comes to a close and an all-new year will soon begin! At The Artist Book Foundation, we are deeply grateful to the artists who continue to inspire and drive the creative process with honesty and grit through the best and hardest of times. Their passion and dedication have not diminished as they thrive in the moment and rise up with innovative ways to communicate their art and ideas. So, too, do we appreciate the industries that support them and us, with online sales of artwork and books for remote-learning students, resilient historians, and committed collectors. Most impressively, our print partners in northern Italy worked throughout the height of the pandemic this past spring and summer to deliver Glassworks: The Art of Frederick Birkhill. This premier monograph is made all the more beautiful and intriguing by the story—as told by the artist, the designer, and the pressman—that accompanied its production. Please take a moment to read. The other publication that has ridden the pandemic wave is Figuration Never Died: New York Painterly Painting, 1950—1970, an exhibition catalogue for the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center that offers groundbreaking scholarship on this American postwar art movement. It is a long-overdue survey highlighting the under-represented, midcentury contributions of Robert De Niro, Sr., Grace Hartigan, Alex Katz, Jane Freilicher, Wolf Kahn, Anne Tabachnick, and others. As soon as the exhibition opens later this month, we look forward to posting a virtual tour of it on our website.
