He appears in joy and anguish, in the mountain breeze and the sea storm. In our prayer we need the patience to wait for God to speak to us, and the faith to walk towards him when he calls. Last week we spoke briefly about St. Alphonsus Liguori who founded the Redemptorists. For those who cannot make it to mass because of illness or being vulnerable to the covid19 virus, on the left is a lovely prayer of Spiritual Communion by St Alphonsus. We can say it every day. Young people (and for the young in heart and mind!) Do animals go on holidays???? I’ve heard of cats and dogs going on holidays. But what about other animals? What about cows, horses, pigs???? This fellow seems very at home, having his daily swim. Looks nice and warm too. Did you know that some pigs live in heaven? and they don’t even have to die, to go there? can you find out where it is on planet earth? When you’ve found the answer, see what this pig and many other animals get up to in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Md8sA26ep4s Enjoy. 3 Laughter the best medicine Out of step ……… Funny …….. but Serious The rain was pouring down outside the pub. There standing in front of a big puddle outside the pub was an Irish man, drenched holding a stick, with a piece of string dangling in the water. A passer-by stopped and asked …. “what are you doing?” “Fishing” replied the old man. Feeling sorry for the old man, the gent says …. “come in out of the rain and have a drink with me”. In the warm ambiance of the pub, as they sip their whiskeys, the gentleman being a bit of a smart ass, cannot resist asking … “so how many have you caught today?” Replied the old man…… “you’re the 8th ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We had a bold thought. A solution to someone who nags? Shouldn’t be showing this …. Ah but go on anyway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJwUeLbZnig Tip of the week Have Fun. Hey, I know many very holy, very spiritual people who have great faith and belief in God. They believe in heaven and some are absolute in their conviction that they will enjoy that next life in the company of Jesus …. eternal joy and happiness. And yet ….. they don’t want to die ….. not yet anyway. They believe that they have a life to live ….. So in the coming days, months, years ….. let us all live well. After all we only have one life on this earth, so let’s make the best of it. For ourselves, for our families, for our communities, let’s be a little crazy from time to time. Let’s have fun. Let’s ask ourselves ….. Can I bring a smile to someone’s face? Can I cause someone to laugh? Smiling and laughing is contagious. Let’s be good Contagious. 4 Alpha Our next Alpha starts in the Autumn. FREE HOLIDAY GUIDE & MAP Discover Boyne Valley 2021-2022 Birthplace of Ireland’s Ancient East discoverboynevalley.ie “The Boyne is not a showy river. It rises in County Kildare and flows gently and majestically through County Meath and joins the sea at Drogheda in County Louth some 112 kilometres later. It has none of the razzmatazz of its sister, the Shannon. It’s neither the longest river in Ireland, nor does it have the greatest flow. What is does have, and by the gallon, is history. In fact, the Boyne Valley is like a time capsule. Travel along it and you travel through millennia of Irish history, from passage tombs that pre-date the Pyramids, to the Hill of Tara, seat of the High Kings of Ireland, all the way to the home of the First World War poet Francis Ledwidge in Slane. It’s the Irish equivalent of Egypt’s Valley of the Kings. And you can choose to explore it by car, bicycle, kayak, or by strolling along its banks and the towpaths of the navigation canals that run alongside from Navan to Oldbridge.” Frances Power - Editor, Cara, the Aer Lingus inflight magazine - Boyne Valley Feature, October/November 2014 Pg 68-78 Cara magazine is available online at issuu.com discoverboynevalley.ie Angling 12 Contents The Boyne River 01 Angling 12 Halloween in the Boyne Valley 25 Discover Boyne Valley Flavours 41 Ireland’s Ancient East 03 Horse Racing 13 Easy Access 26 Eating Out 43 Outdoor Activities 05 Golf 15 Where is the Boyne Valley 27 Gastro Pubs and Bars 46 Royal Canal Greenway 06 Adventures & Activities 17 Boyne Valley Drive 29 Craft Distilling & Brewing 48 Walking, Cycling & Paddling 07 Organised and Guided Tours 19 Boyne Valley Drive Sites 31 Where to Stay 49 Boyne Valley Gardens 09 Music, Arts & Culture 21 Towns & Villages 33 The Coast 11 Crafts 23 Itineraries 37 Photography courtesy of: copterview.ie, tel 086 8672339; jennymatthewsphotography.com, tel 087 2451184; perfectstills.com, tel 086 1740454; and irelandscontentpool.com 01 02 Melifont Abbey Knowth, Brú na Bóinne To tell the story of Ireland’s Ancient East we must start at the beginning..

CHAPTER 20 - Lesa Ni Mhunghaile 10/7/15 3:07 PM Page 547 CHAPTER 20 The Irish language in County Meath, 1700-1900 LESA NÍ MHUNGHAILE1 Writing in 1933, Énrí Ó Muirgheasa (1874-1945), the Irish-language scholar of the Gaelic Revival and collector of Irish-language manuscripts, described how in 1903 he had tried to purchase a manuscript penned by the Moynalty scribe Peadar Ó Gealacáin (Peter Galligan, 1792-1860) from its owner, Tom Boylan of Cruisetown, Nobber. Boylan, who was an Irish speaker and could read the manuscript, had refused to sell it, however, as it was the last relic of Ó Gealacáin that remained in Nobber. Mon-Fri 9.30-1.00 ‘Jesus is our best friend, and we share God’s mystery and love with each other.’ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello everyone, A Big Welcome to all our online parishioners and to all of you who look in from different parts of Ireland. You are all most welcome. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WORLD MISSION SUNDAY - SUNDAY OCTOBER 18TH – The world is in crisis. COVID-19 has turned our lives upside down. In many of our poorer parishes in Africa, Asia and Latin America, it is missionaries who are on the front line. These men and women already do so much; walking hand-in-hand with marginalised communities, long before and long after any emergency. However, they desperately need our help and if there was ever a time when World Mission Sunday was more needed, it is now. This year, World Mission Sunday, a celebration of truly epic proportions and global solidarity, will take place over the weekend of 18th October. On this day, all Mass collections, including those from the most impoverished churches in the developing world, will be offered to help further the reach of missionaries and mission. The day is a lifeline, not only to missionaries, but also the future of the Church.
