PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year. The text discusses the “issue I of climate change in an unprecedented way and with a precision and approach that are impressive,” wrote a 37-year-old IT entrepreneur and father of young children after reading a draft of this bishops’ letter. The approach is obviously theological. God loves the world and wants it to be saved (the Gospel of John 3:16–17). In this project of love, we as humans play a special part that we can take on with Jesus as our role model and the Holy Spirit as our source of strength. A great deal has occurred regarding the climate issue in just over 10 years. -

The study of the offici a! records of the congregation during these past fifty years has been exceedingly interesting, but it goes without saying that such a study h,as also involved much hard work. To select from the records s'uch facts and accounts as might be fitted together into a true composite picture of the • congregation's fifty years of activity is no easy task. The product of our effort is presented herewith, and we leav,e to the reader to judge as to its worth. The membership of our Emanuel Church has been derived from almost every province of Sweden, the majority of our members, however, hailing from the provinces of Vastergotland and Halland, that is, from the diocese of Gothenburg. The provinces of Varmland and Smaland have also contributed goodly numbers to our constituency. -

Scholarship Handbook A complete listing of scholarships and grants 1 Introduction This scholarship handbook contains brief descriptions of the criteria currently employed by the various foundations and endowments that provide scholarships and research grants. Persons wishing to obtain additional information should consult the separate scholarship documents held at the Uppsala University scholarship office and the various student nations. Those documents include deeds of gift, wills and testaments, regulations, etc. Parenthetical information about the year in which a given donation was made to the University is included in the Scholarship Hand- book, which may be purchased in printed form at the scholarship office or obtained from the website of the Uppsala Academic Trust at www.uaf.se. The web-based version is to be regarded as an original and will be updated annually. Applications may be submitted for scholarships and research grants with regard to which notice of current availability has been made by the scholarship office or the relevant faculty, which no- tice would normally be made at the beginning of the autumn or spring term of the year in ques- tion. An asterisk (*) appears in the Scholarship Handbook after the name of any foundation pro- viding scholarships or research grants for which notice of availability is also made at any other university or institution of higher learning. A number of ecumenical dialogues have identified apostolic succession as one of the most crucial issues on which the churches need to find a joint understanding in order to achieve the unity of the Church. When the Porvoo Common Statement (PCS) was published in 1993, it was regarded by some as an ecumenical breakthrough, because it claimed to have established visible and corporate unity between the Lutheran and Anglican churches of the Nordic-Baltic-British-Irish region through a joint understanding of ecclesiology and apostolic succession. The consensus has been achieved, according to the PCS, through a ‘deeper understanding’ that embraces the churches’ earlier diverse interpretations. In the international debate about the PCS, the claim of a ‘deeper understanding’ as a solution to earlier contradictory interpretations has been both praised and criticised, and has been seen as both possible and impossible. This thesis investigates how and why the PCS has been interpreted differently in various contexts, and discerns the arguments used for or against the ecclesiology presented in the PCS. -

Han betecknades efter sin bortgång rent av som den siste kyrko fursten i vårt land.1 I riksdagen tillhörde han den dåförtiden aristokratiska första kammaren, och han behövde väl aldrig hålla något valtal för att försvara sin plats i senaten. Han stod hovet nära, både som överhovpredikant och som personlig rådgivare åt kungaparet. I sitt stift var han den obestridde ledaren, och vid prästmötena tedde han sig — åtminstone tyckte vi åhörare det — som rektorn inför en skara skolpojkar. Detta är emellertid inte den fullständiga bilden av Gottfrid Billings personlig het. Han var mycket förtegen om sitt innersta och som offentlig person ganska reserverad. Han beklagade själv att han var så »rädd för att visa känslans värme, även då den finns».2 Redan denna självbekännelse vittnar om att det bakom den sträva ytan dolde sig »stormiga vågor i själen», som Nathan Söderblom ut tryckte det i ett minnestal.“ I själva verket var Gottfrid Billing under hela sin levnad en på det inre livets plan hårt kämpande man. I sin ungdom genomgick han en livsavgörande reli giös kris, vad man plägar kallar en väckelse, och han upphörde aldrig någonsin att brottas med religiöst grubbel och melankoli. Han avslöjar i sina Minnen att Västeråstiden, som utåt tedde sig så ljus och framgångsrik, i grund och botten var »i inre hänseende en mycket svår trängselns tid».1 Ännu på ålderns dagar, då oron eljest plägar stillna och sinnet finna ro, kom det svåra tider och stunder, varom hans närmaste har gripande vittnat.0 Hans Larsson, som tydligen förstod Billing bättre än de flesta, återger i sin minnesteckning ett yttrande av Billing året före hans bortgång.0 Det hade varit 1 Edv. -
