We would like to thank the teaching teams from both the summer of 2016 and 2017 whose dedication to the project and the children allowed for the development of a successful program and materials. Development of Summer Success will continue in consecutive years with support from The Ohio State University, The City of Columbus, and other potential sponsors. Summer Success would not have been able to provide high-quality field trips without the support and generous donations of several community organizations. These organizations included The Columbus Metropolitan Library, The Columbus Museum of Art, The Center of Science and Industry, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and The Columbus Trolley Company. The Summer Success Team would like to thank the administration and staff of these organizations for welcoming our program into their facilities and providing our camp with transportation that allowed for enriching experiences for everyone involved. The authors would also like to acknowledge Mihaiela Gugiu, Emi Tsuda, Meena Mihalski, Flora Hong, and the Summer Success staff members for their contributions to this manual. It is designed to be implemented during the summer prior to kindergarten entry for children who have had little-to-no formal early childhood experience. Summer Success is intended to provide a four- week, 140-hour intensive program with low teacher-to-child ratios that allows for high-quality, individualized instruction. Summer Success aims to provide explicit instruction in the domains of: (1) language and literacy, (2) math, (3) social-emotional, and (4) gross motor within the context of a “camp-based environment.” Creative arts and auxiliary activities, such as field trips, are included throughout the program to reinforce and expand upon instruction across these domains. Caregiver and family engagement strategies are also emphasized in this program to enhance children’s learning at home during the summer months. The Summer Success program materials, including daily lesson plans, sample schedules, recommended storybooks, suggested creative and auxiliary activities, and select screening and assessment materials, are provided in this manual free of charge to early childhood educators and community partners who are interested in providing high-quality, individualized instruction to children preparing to enter kindergarten. The Summer Success program was piloted in the summer of 2016 and 2017. An evaluation of the program demonstrated that it could be feasibly implemented in a camp-based environment, and was associated with significant gains in participating children’s kindergarten readiness skills. For further information about the validation of the Summer Success program, please consult the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy’s Fall 2017 whitepaper titled, “Summer Success: A Comprehensive Kindergarten Readiness Camp” at earlychildhood.ehe.osu.edu SUMMER SUCCESS 5 Domains of Instruction The Summer Success program focuses on providing explicit instruction in four distinct domains considered important for kindergarten readiness by the researchers, educators, and community partners consulted when developing this program. These domains are: (1) language and literacy, (2) math, (3) social-emotional, and (4) gross motor. Table 1 lists these domains, along with their corresponding learning targets. Table 2 provides an overview of when the learning targets are presented throughout the course of the four-week Summer Success program. Table 1. Summer Success domains of instruction and their corresponding learning targets. Domain Learning Target Language and Literacy 1. Understand and identify story components, such as setting, characters, and events; 2. Identify and sequence story events; 3. Identify and isolate the initial sounds of words; 4. Identify and isolate phonemes (i.e., sounds within words), and count the number of phonemes; and 5. Identify upper- and lower-case letters of the alphabet. Math 1. Count and write numbers 1-20; 2. Count and identify the total number of objects in a set; 3. Sort and classify objects by some property and identify common and differing features among sets; and 4. Demonstrate understanding and use quantity/size comparisons (e.g., more/less, and same/different). Social-Emotional 1. Demonstrate self-regulation skills, such as compliance with routines and transitions, following rules, and turn-taking; and 2. Understand emotions and their expression, (e.g., identify emotion based on facial expressions, predict how others might feel, use emotion language). Gross Motor 1. Demonstrate object control skills (i.e., rolling, catching, throwing, kicking, dribbling, and striking); and 2. Engage in daily physical activity. SUMMER SUCCESS 6 Table 2. • "Rip Her to Shreds": Women's Musk According to a Butch-Femme Aesthetic
"Rip Her to Shreds": Women's Musk According to a Butch-Femme Aesthetic Judith A, Peraino "Rip Her to Shreds" is the tide of a song recorded in 1977 by the rock group Blondie; a song in which the female singer cat tily criticizes another woman. It begins with the female "speak er" addressing other members of her clique by calling attention to a woman who obviously stands outside the group. The lis tener likewise becomes a member of the clique, forced to par ticipate tacitly in the act of criticism. Every stanza of merciless defamation is articulated by a group of voices who shout a cho rus of agreement, enticing the listener to join the fray. (spoken! Hey, psf pst, here she comes !lOW. Ah, you know her, would YOIl look ollhlll hair, Yah, YOIl know her, check out Ihose shoes, A version of this paper was read at the conference "Feminist Theory and Music: Toward a Common Language," Minneapolis, MN, June 1991. In contrast to the backstabbing female which the Blondie song presents, so-called "women's music" emphasizes solidarity and affection between women, and reserves its critical barbs for men and patriarchal society.

  • Ace Frehley Album Kissfaq Interview with Rob Freeman July 2013
Ace Frehley Album KissFAQ Interview with Rob Freeman July 2013 KissFAQ: Rob, what do you recall about getting the invitation to participate as the recording engineer on Ace Frehley’s 1978 solo album? Rob Freeman: I got the call to work on Ace’s solo album sometime in June 1978. I’m not sure if it came directly from Eddie Kramer, with whom I had previously worked, or from someone in the KISS organization. Either way, I was thrilled to get that call because I had a sense that recording that album was going to be a big step forward both for me and for Plaza Sound, the studio I had been working so hard to advance. By the summer of ‘78, I had already recorded some noteworthy albums at Plaza Sound with a variety of artists— among them, The Ramones’ first album, “Ramones”; Blondie’s first two albums, “Blondie” and “Plastic Letters”; and Richard Hell and the Voidoid’s “Blank Generation”—but these were mostly “downtown” New York artists, and, at least back then, my work with them hardly garnered the kind of worldwide recognition that a KISS album would. KF: Was this your first KISS-related project? RF: Yes, Ace’s album was the first. I guess the other KISS band members and the rest of their organization liked what I did for Ace because after that they called me to work on the “Music from the Elder” and “Lick It Up” albums as well as to put a number of radio and television commercial spots together for them.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

Rip “Her” To Shreds: How the Women of 1970s New York Punk Defied Gender Norms Rebecca Willa Davis Senior Thesis in American Studies Barnard College, Columbia University Thesis Advisor: Karine Walther April 18, 2007 Contents Introduction 2 Chapter One Patti Smith: Jesus Died For Somebody’s Sins But Not Mine 11 Chapter Two Deborah Harry: I Wanna Be a Platinum Blonde 21 Chapter Three Tina Weymouth: Seen and Not Seen 32 Conclusion 44 Bibliography 48 1 Introduction Nestled between the height of the second wave of feminism and the impending takeover of government by conservatives in 1980 stood a stretch of time in which Americans grappled with new choices and old stereotypes. It was here, in the mid-to-late 1970s, that punk was born. 1 Starting in New York—a city on the verge of bankruptcy—and spreading to Los Angeles and London, women took to the stage, picking punk as their Trojan Horse for entry into the boy bastion of rock’n’roll. 2 It wasn’t just the music that these women were looking to change, but also traditionally held notions of gender as well. This thesis focuses on Patti Smith, Deborah Harry, and Tina Weymouth—arguably the first, and most important, female punk musicians—to demonstrate that women in punk used multiple methods to question, re-interpret, and reject gender. On the surface, punk appeared just as sexist as any other previous rock movement; men still controlled the stage, the sound room, the music journals and the record labels. As writer Carola Dibbell admitted in 1995, “I still have trouble figuring out how women ever won their place in this noise-loving, boy-loving, love-fearing, body-hating music, which at first glance looked like one more case where rock’s little problem, women, would be neutralized by male androgyny.” According to Dibbell, “Punk was the music of the obnoxious, permanently adolescent white boy—skinny, zitty, ugly, loud, stupid, fucked up.”3 Punk music was loud and aggressive, spawning the violent, almost exclusively-male mosh pit at live shows that still exists today.

With influences from science fiction, horror, weird, and literary fiction, the untitled novel blends genres for a disturbing account. This novel also plays with constraints in the spirit of many constraint-based writing movements, without the inclusion of names, few identifying markers, and in publication the removal of title, chapter numbers, page numbers, and author name.
