The Bell Gully National Schools Writing Festival 20-21 August 2005 Festival Pr ogramme At the start of each day, students and teachers should meet in the Maclaurin Foyer. The main festival sessions will be held in Maclaurin Lecture Theatre 101. Small group workshops will be held in adjacent buildings. Students and teachers will be directed to their workshops rooms by their workshop coordinator. All refreshment breaks will be in the Maclaurin Foyer. The Maclaurin Building is accessible from Gate 5 off Kelburn Parade. Campus maps are available at www.vuw.ac.nz/home/about_victoria/maps.html Saturday 20 August 8.30 am Registration (please be punctual) 9.00 am Official opening and welcome 9.30 am First round of small-group workshops (students and teachers) 12.30 pm Lunch (Vic Books stall operating) 1.30 pm Their Dark Materials: novelists Nigel Cox and Fiona Farrell on where ideas come from. (Chair Damien Wilkins.) 2.45 pm Afternoon tea (Vic Books stall operating) 3.15 pm Twenty (Poetic) Questions: Nick Ascroft and Bernadette Hall in conversation. (Introduced by Bill Manhire.) 4.30 pm End of day one Sunday 21 August 9.15 am Meet in Maclaurin Foyer 9.30 am Students Second round of small-group workshops Teachers Forum with Damien Wilkins, Ken Duncum, Linda Burgess and Bill Manhire (participating Chair) 12.30 pm Lunch (Vic Books stall operating) 1.30 pm Write Out Loud: workshop leaders present and discuss writing emerging from the workshops with Nigel Cox, Eirlys Hunter, Vivienne Plumb and Marty Smith (Chair: Chris Price.) 2.45pm Reading: Te Mata Poet Laureate Jenny Bornholdt 3.00 pm Afternoon tea and farewells (Vic Books stall operating) 3.30 pm End of day two Participants Students 200 students representing 65 schools, from Northland to Fiordland Teachers 45 teachers from 34 schools, participating in a parallel programme for teachers of creative writing Writers Over 20 writers will be involved in the festival, discussing their work or leading small-group workshops, including: Nick Ascroft Eirlys Hunter Jenny Bornholdt Laura Kroetsch James Brown Abby Letteri Linda Burgess Bill Manhire Lynda Chanwai-Earle Kathy McCrae Nigel Cox Lorae Parry Stephanie de Montalk Susan Pearce Ken Duncum Vivienne Plumb Fiona Farrell Chris Price Caroline Foote Marty Smith Bernadette Hall Damien Wilkins Vic Books stall Please note that Vic Books will have a stall at the festival on Saturday and Sunday, operating during programme breaks. A 10% discount will be offered on the retail price of selected works by participating writers and other books that may be of interest to attendees. Cash, cheque or credit payments accepted but there will be no EFTPOS facility.
