After starting the season 3-0 in the USC/LMU tournament, the Trojans went 1-2 at the Bluejay Invitational in Omaha, Neb., last week. USC has previously faced Arkansas (2000) and Yale (2011) once each and swept both teams. The Trojans have a much longer history with UCSB and lead the all-time series, 28-9, but have not played the Gauchos since taking a 3-1 win in 2013. The Trojans are stacked at the pins and rely heavily on OHs Khalia Lanier (4.59 kps) and Alyse Ford (2.65 kps) and OPPs Brittany Abercrombie (2.70 kps) and Niki Withers (2.65 kps) to drive the @USCWomensVolley attack. 2017 USC Women’s Volleyball 2 USC Head Coach Mick Haley Mick Haley is in his 17th season as head coach at USC. He has guided teams to two NCAA titles (2002, ‘03), six Final Four appearances (2002, ‘03, ‘04, ‘07, ’10, and ‘11) and 16 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. USC has finished the season ranked nationally in the top five nine times out of 16 years under Haley.

The winningest coach in the program’s history, Haley has posted an impressive overall record of 414-111 (.789) while going 225-77 (.745) in the Pac-12. Haley was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2015 for leading the Trojans to the league title each time.

Haley’s 2003 squad won the program’s sixth overall title and third NCAA crown. The Trojans were a perfect 35-0 (only the fourth team ever to accomplish the feat) and Haley was honored as the AVCA Division I Coach of the Year. A two-time national championship coach at Texas and four-year coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team, Haley took the helm at USC to start of the 2001 season.

Haley earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Ball State in 1965 and a master’s degree in education in 1966 from Southern Illinois. Haley and his wife, Carrie, have a daughter, Halie, and a son, Hunter. He also has a son, Heath, and a daughter, Heather, from a previous marriage, and six grandchildren, Harrison, Hayley, Amelia, Michael, Presli, and Harley.

#12 FAMILIAR FACE: Junior transfer Brittany Welsh moved back to Southern California from LSU and was with the Women of Troy for three days before she 2017 Awards and Honors packed her bags to head to Europe for a two-week trip with her new team. Luckily, she has the comforts of a familiar face in junior OH Alyse Ford whom she played Brittany Abercrombie with at Mater Dei HS. USC/LMU All-Tournament Team #14 YOU’RE KIDDING: Setter Reni Meyer-Whalley knows what it’s like to be the Alyse Ford middle kid. She is one of nine children and is right in the middle of her eight siblings USC/LMU All-Tournament Team whose ages range from 14 to 34. In all, she has five brothers; Ryan (34), Zane (25), Quade (24), Hayze (21), and Trae (14); and has three sisters; Kristin (31), Elyza (30), Khalia Lanier and Stevie (14). Older sister Kristin was a defensive specialist and libero for Boston Pac-12 Player of the Week (Aug. 28) College (2004-07) and also wore the No. 14. He later started a new record label called Loma Vista Records.

#15 FLIP OUT: Setter Nikki Leonard is an all-around athlete in all facets. She spent eight years as a gymnast in her youth growing up in Bakersfield, Calif.

#16 FATHER FIGURE: Outside hitter Khalia Lanier is the daughter of NBA Hall of Famer Bob Lanier. He was the first overall pick in the 1970 NBA draft and went on to become an eight-time all-star during his career with the Detroit Pistons (1970-80) and Milwaukee Bucks (1980-84). He entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992 and served as an interim head coach of the Golden State Warriors from 1994-95. Khalia lists her father as her biggest sports hero and wears the No. 16 as a tribute to his athletic career. Bob Lanier’s No. 16 is retired by both the Pistons and the Bucks.

#21 TROJAN TIES: Senior transfer MB Danielle Geiger seemed destined to end up at USC. The former Anteater once played for a Trojan great at UC Irvine under coach Paula Weishoff for two seasons before a coaching change took place.
