USC marched into the Final Four and won its second consecutive NCAA title, the Pac-10’s 11th volleyball crown overall. On the men’s side, Pac-10 members have won 246 NCAA team championships, far ahead of the the 187 claimed by the runner-up Big Ten. Men’s NCAA crowns have come at a phenomenal rate for the Pac-10 - 15 basketball titles by five schools (more than any other conference), 48 tennis titles, 45 outdoor crowns, and 24 baseball titles. Pac-10 members have won 23 of the last 35 NCAA titles in volleyball, 30 of the last 45 in water polo, and 20 total swim- ming and diving national championships. Individually, the Conference has produced an impressive number of NCAA men’s individual champions as well, claiming 1,079 NCAA individual crowns. On the women’s side, the story is much the same. Since the NCAA began conducting women’s championships 23 years ago, Pac-10 members have claimed at least four national titles in a single season on 15 occasions. 2003 In Review

It was a record-breaking year for junior outside hitter who became Stanford’s all-time leader in kills for a single season when she notched 627 in 2003. Nnamani broke four-time All-American ’s record of 621 in 2001. Nnamani was also chosen as one of only four final- ists for the Honda Award for volleyball. The Normal, Illinois native was also invited to train with the USA National Team in the spring for a shot at the Athens Olympics this summer. Senior middle blocker Jennifer Harvey also put her name into the record books as she accumulated 182 blocks in 2003 – good for fourth all-time in a single season on The Farm. Harvey also ranks fifth at Stanford in career blocks with 478. Several athletes garnered multiple awards for the outstanding efforts during the 2003 campaign. Nnamani was tabbed a first-team AVCA All-American while senior mid- dle blocker Jennifer Harvey was a second-team selection. Nnamani was also a first-team pick by Volleyball Magazine. Outside hitter Kristin Richards was tabbed National Freshman of the Year by Volleyball Magazine and was the AVCA Pacific Region’s Freshman of the Year as well. Around the Pac-10, Richards was also named conference Freshman of the Year and was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection. Joining Richards were teammates Ogonna Nnamani (a three-time selection) and Jennifer Harvey. Nnamani was also a CoSIDA third-team Academic All-American. Senior middle blocker Sara McGee (Davis, CA) and senior setter Anna Robinson (Tampa, FL) were first-team selections on the Pac-10 All- Academic team. Nnamani (Normal, Ill.) was a second-team pick while sen- ior Sara Dukes (Danville, Calif.), junior Leahi Hall (Haiku, Hi.) along with sophomores Katie Goldhahn (Lodi, Calif.) and Courtney Schultz (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) were honorable mention selections. Stanford also said good-bye to five outstanding seniors: Jamie Brownell, Sara Dukes, Jennifer Harvey, Sara McGee and Anna Robinson.

Cardinal Make 23rd Consecutive Postseason Appearance In 2003

he 2003 Stanford women’s volleyball team wrapped up the season with Ta 25-7 overall record, 14-4 in the Pac-10 and a No. 10 ranking in the national poll. The Cardinal appeared in their 22nd consecutive Sweet Sixteen appear- ance before falling to conference foe Washington in the NCAA Regional Semifinal. Stanford advanced to the round of sixteen with wins in the first and second rounds. Stanford defeated Sacramento State, 3-0 in NCAA First Round action and swept Pacific, 3-0, in the second round. Ogonna Nnamani led the Cardinal in both matches with 17 and 27 kills respective- ly. Kristin Richards notched a double-double against both the Hornets and the Tigers while Jennifer Harvey led the team at the net with six and nine blocks respectively. Stanford opened the season 4-0, winning the Colorado State Tournament before falling to then-No. 3 Florida. The Cardinal also took a tough early lose to then-No. 2 Hawaii, 2-3, in Honolulu before a crowd of 8,740. The Cardinal then strung together seven consecutive wins before suffering a 2-3 loss at California. Stanford had a five-match and a six-match Jennifer Harvey was a second-team during the season as well before the loss to Washington in All-America selection in 2003 the Regional semifinal.
