    CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Any comments, or suggestions for further questions to be answered in this section, should be sent to [email protected] Please note that this section is for general questions only, and not for dealing with specific queries about cricket records, or about individual cricketers or their performances. 1 THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CRICKET What are the three formats in which top-level cricket is played? At the top level of the game – at international level, and at the level of counties in England and their equivalent in other leading countries – cricket is played in three different ‘formats’. The longest-established is ‘first-class cricket’, which includes Test matches as well as matches in England’s County Championship, the Sheffield Shield in Australia, the Ranji Trophy in India, and equivalent competitions in other countries. First-class matches are scheduled to be played over at least 3 days, and each team is normally entitled to have two innings in this period. Next is ‘List A’ cricket – matches played on a single day and in which each team is limited in the number of overs that it can bat or bowl. Nowadays, List A matches are generally arranged to be played with a limit of 50 overs per side. International matches of this type are referred to as ‘One-Day Internationals’, or ODIs.

    Gloucestershire vs Sussex Sharks Vitality Blast – South Group The Bristol County Ground, Bristol Sunday 4th August Delray Rawlins hit a superb unbeaten 35 as Sussex Sharks secured a three-wicket victory over Gloucestershire at the Bristol County Ground with two balls remaining. Gloucestershire players protested in vain when they incurred a six-run penalty for a slow over-rate, leaving the visitors to score seven off the final over. Rawlins then kept his cool to knock off the winning runs, finishing with five fours and a six from a 17-ball innings which ultimately proved decisive. Ian Cockbain had earlier scored 61 not out, sharing in stands of 67 and 38 with James Bracey and Benny Howell for the third and sixth wickets respectively as the hosts raised 159-6 after being put in. Having successfully chased to beat South Group leaders Kent by nine wickets in their previous outing, Sussex again elected to field first. That looked a good decision once new-ball bowlers Ollie Robinson and Reece Topley accounted for openers Miles Hammond and Michael Klinger in quick time as Gloucestershire's top-order again fell short of expectations. Gloucestershire enjoyed a much-needed stroke of luck when James Bracey was dropped at cover point on one by Rashid Khan off the bowling of Chris Jordan. He certainly made good his escape, posting 30 from 26 balls and staging a restorative stand of 67 in 9.1 overs with Cockbain for the third wicket. Sussex deployed spinners Khan and Danny Briggs in tandem in an attempt to stem the flow of runs, a ploy which accounted for Bracey and the dangerous Ryan Higgins and caused Gloucestershire to lose crucial momentum during the middle overs.

Large at the start, the attendance went on increasing, till late in the afternoon there were 24,000 people on the ground. It was feared at first that owing to a small abscess in the throat Ranjitsinhji would have to stand out of the England eleven. However, after consulting a doctor, he found himself able to play, so Stoddart made way for him. The other player left out was Board. With Stoddart away Maclaren captained the side. Trott won the toss, and such a fine start was made by Australia that at the end of the day 283 runs had been scored for the loss of only three wickets. McLeod and Darling opened the innings to the bowling of Richardson and Hirst. The early batting was slow and marked by great caution. Richardson bowled four maiden overs in succession and the fielding was superb. With the total at 17, Briggs went on in place of Richardson, off whom only one run had been made. Darling scored eight in Briggs’s first over, and then, at 25, Richardson bowled at Hirst’s end. Darling did nearly all the hitting, getting 23 runs out of the first 27. As the game proceeded, the play became freer in character, Darling’s cutting being very clean and neat.
