The city of Rio de Janeiro gives us this gift. The beauties of the coast go beyond the hype, sung and filmed beaches of the south. The Rio-Guaratiba route, starting from Barra da Tijuca, is an unforgettable encounter with the sea. 5 BEACHBEACH ROUROUTES Barra da Tijuca The Barra da Tijuca beach is the biggest of Rio de Janeiro state, with 18km of extension. Its green and clear waters extend along Lúcio Costa Avenue, until the Recreio dos Bandeirantes. The big advantage is the subway access, getting off at Jardim Oceânico station. A paradise for water and sand athlets, it attracts surfers and stand up paddle, windsurf and bodyboarding surfers, as well as footvolley and beach volley lovers. Families with children also enjoy a good bath. But it is important to be aware of the rough seas, warn the firefighters at the various rescue stations. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and kiosks with rental of chairs and umbrellas. So close to the pace of an urban center, Barra da Tijuca does not lose the charm of contact with nature. Restinga areas and the Marapendi Biological Reserve are nearby. 6 BEACHBEACH ROUROUTES Prainha (Little Beach) A small beach of 700 meters long that take the breath of the visitors. It is 50 km from downtown Rio de Janeiro. 8 BEACHBEACH ROUROUTES Recreio Beach With more than 2 kilometers of pedestrian and bicycle boardwalk, Recreio beach is a favorite of locals, as well as a destination for surfers. It has plenty of infrastructure: public and private parking, kiosks, restaurants, rescue stations, toilets, and rental of chairs and umbrellas. From Barra da Tijuca, you can get there by bus. 9 BEACHBEACH ROUROUTES Reserva Beach To enjoy the sea with tranquility and silence, listening only to the noise of the wind and waves, the destination is the Reserva beach. Surfers and longboarding, windsurfing, kite surfing and bodyboarding surfers love it. There are 10 kilometers of sand strip, with kiosks and, in some areas, chairs and umbrellas for renting.
