Printable Area Lists | Heritage Open Days Page 1 of 42 Properties and events in Nottinghamshire 2016 St Giles Church - bells and more musical delights Balderton , Nottinghamshire The bells will be rung at times throughout the day by our ringers and ringers from nearby churches, we hope to ring a quarter peal at some time during the day. Groups of people will be able to visit the ringing room to watch to bells being rung. Also in the church the organ will be played at times, there will be choir singing and other musical items. Opening Times • Saturday: Church 1000–1800, Tower 1300–1700 Booking Details No booking required Additional information There will be approximately 50 – 60 scarecrows in gardens around the parish, these can be viewed by anyone but maps are available showing the locations at a cost of £1 per map. Each map has a voting form attached that allows you to vote for your favourite scarecrow. The scarecrow festival is on all weekend, maps can be purchased from the local post office at any time or from the church when it is open. Attenborough Gravel Works Display by Nick Clarke Bartons plc, Barton House, 61 High Road, Chilwell, Beeston, Nottinghamshire, NG9 4AJ A display of photographs and memorabilia of Trent Gravels, which later became Ready Mixed Concrete, and latterly CEMEX of Long Lane Attenborough. After 87 years of working the site will close this year. Their worked out lakes and ponds have gone on to form the Attenborough Nature Reserve. The present day church consists of a medieval chancel with north vestry (now housing an organ) and south wall chancel door, clerestoried nave, north and south aisles, south porch, west tower and spire, and west-end vestries. It is set within a conventional churchyard that is walled and gated on Church Lane (north side) There will be a display of the history of the church and guide booklets available for adults and children. There is a memorial to those people killed in the WWI Chilwell Shell Explosion in the Churchyard. Many of the events for Heritage Open Day take place in the former bus garage, workshop and social club. On site will be a number of heritage buses in the Company livery and other related items. This year our alphabetical journey will focus on the streets, people, industries and local amenities connected with the letters B,C,D, E and F. This new exhibition will include maps, scrapbooks, newspapers and photographs from the Society's extensive archives. Beeston Conservative Club New Beeston Conservative Club, 148 Station Road, Beeston, Nottinghamshire, NG9 2AY Local residents will remember the Station Road location as the old Bostocks building and some may recall its use as the Regent ballroom in the 1930s. Whilst ensuring that the interior has been completely renovated and attractively restyled and complete with all the latest features, the Club has been careful to retain and to renovate the building's facade, for many, a well-loved feature of the street-scene. In particular, the magnificent bay window which dominated the front on the first floor with its stained glass which will be remembered as a feature of the ballroom, has been retained to form an attractive setting to the front of the lounge. Opening Times • Thursday: 1200-1400 • Friday: 1200-1400 • Saturday: 1200-1400 • Sunday: 1200-1400 Booking Details No booking required Beeston Fields Golf Club, Club House Tour Beeston Fields Golf Club, Old Drive, Off Wollaton Road, Beeston, Nottinghamshire, NG9 3DA Rebuilt by Alfred Fellows of the Nottingham banking family, in 1837, this prestigious building has been owned by Sir Albert Ball, father of the WWI flying ace, and Sir Frank Bowden of the Raleigh Cycle Company. In 1923, Alfred Mitchell, a local motor agent bought more land and established a golf club. A rare opportunity to tour the house. This tour is in the clubhouse and immediate area outside. Most of it is accessible. Beginning with an outline of the structure of the town, walkers will then circle the centre of Beeston to take in the remaining mills, the High Road, new developments either side of Station Road, and old Beeston (West End and Church) before returning to the Square. The hope is that those who come on the walk learn something about Beeston and will be challenged to find out more! Beeston Methodist Church Methodist Church, Wollaton Road, Beeston, Nottinghamshire, NG9 2NG Following the uniting of four Methodist Churches in Beeston and Chilwell, a unique opportunity to see the books, photographs and artefacts, including 100 years old church banners, which the churches have gathered over the past 200 years. Maybe you or your family have been associated with one of the sites at Clarkes Lane, Chilwell, Wollaton Road, Queens Road or Chilwell Road, Beeston. This is a rare chance to see a significant part of our heritage - whatever the reason, we look forward to seeing you.
