§ Textiles, diamond business, sugar industry, agro & food processing, paper, engineering and chemicals

are some of the key business sectors in Navsari

§ The district has well developed floriculture and horticulture activities owing to its suitable climate and

presence of a major player Best Roses Biotech Pvt. Ltd.

§ Best Roses has pioneered 6 hectare greenhouse project in the district whichis the largest export-

oriented floriculture project in the State. The Company exports to countries such as, Japan, Germany

and UK, etc.

§ Other large players such as Gufic Biosciences Ltd., Ltd., and Mafatlal Industries are

present in the district

§ Navsari district is the largest producer of chikoo in the State and the largest exporter of the fruit in

India

§ The district has huge sugarcane fields as a result of which sugar manufacturing industry is a major

business in and Gandevi talukas of the district

The Gujarat Government has covered floriculture activities under Jyotigram Yojana as a result of which 24-hour power supply is available. There are many floriculture projects coming up in the district which will boost the economy of the district and increase the exports of flowers which has a growing demand

§ -Navsari is proposed to be developed as an industrial area along the Industrial Corridor (DMIC). This will augment development of textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and food processing industries which are prominent sectors

§ Government of plans to develop a Dedicated Freight Map 4: Network of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Corridor (DFC) linking Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.

§ The proposed DFC passes through six states in India, of which

Gujarat accounts for 38% (564 km) of total DFC length (1483

km).

§ The influenced area of 150 km on either sides of DFC is being

developed as “Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor”(DMIC).

§ Almost 62% of total area of Gujarat (18 out of 26 districts) would

be benefited by DMIC development. § Navsari has a well developed network of Sub stations in the district to cater the need of electricity for industry and residential use § There are nine sub stations of 66 KV each and 2 sub stations of 220 KV present at different locations in the district such as Navsari, Gandevi, Chikhli, and Vasanda

Water § Water supply for industrial purposes in the district can be obtained from four main sources, viz Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board (GWSSB), irrigation 220 KV Sub Station 220 KV Sub Station line canals, check dams, and bore wells 220 KV Sub Station line § Dudhiyatalaosituated in the district is developed into 132 KV Sub Station line raw water storage place for the water to be obtained from the Kakraparcanal.

§ A State-wide integrated gas grid system is being set up in Gujarat with the primary objective of building a continuous state-wide gas supply system for industrial, commercial, vehicular, and household use

§ Gujarat Maritime Board has identified Vansi-Borsi as a green field site for development of a direct berthing deep water port.

§ The location is identified for handling petroleum and liquid chemical cargo for the immediate hinterland

§ The proposed site is 13 km away from nearest broad gauge railwaylink at Navsari and is 30 km south of the industrial town of Surat

§ The Government has also proposed development of a modern fishing harbourat Dholaiport at an estimated cost of INR 14.77 crore (USD 3.5 million)

§ Navsari Cancer Care Foundation has undertaken a mega project of establishing state-of-art Radiotherapy Unit at Civil Hospital Navsari, jointly with the Government of Gujarat under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model

Tourism

29 Tourism

§ Dandi – It is a historical place located 16 km from the district. The place

has the Saifee Villa Museum established in 1961 to commemorate the

Salt March. The museum houses pictures and artifacts from Gandhiji’s

life

§ Somnath Mahadev temple – It is situated in Billimorataluka of the

district. It is a temple of Lord Mahadev and is the tallest (108feet)

§ DasturMeherji-RanaLibrary – The library has a picture collection of

the old town of Navsari and one of the oldest religious manuscripts of

the Parsi community

§ Ubhrat–Located about 20 km from Navsari, Ubhratis a picnic spot
