This is certainly true on the Chase Line between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley where the extension of services to London Euston has resulted in regular late running and an unacceptable level of cancellations north of Walsall. -

On Sunday (1 July) East Midlands Trains successfully completed two 125mph runs on the route, 15mph faster than the current top line speed of 110mph and the first time a diesel train has operated at 125mph on the MML. British Rail's gas turbine Advanced Passenger Train has previously travelled at 125mph along the line. Item No. 14.1 Report of: Head of Economic Prosperity Contact Officer: Dean Piper / Debbie Harris Contact Number: 01543 464223 Portfolio Leader: Economic Development & Planning Key Decision: Yes Report Track: Cabinet: 28/01/21 Cabinet 28 January 2021 Cannock Railway Station 1 Purpose of Report 1.1 The report presents to Cabinet the Strategic Outline Business Case (SOBC) for a transformational upgrade of Cannock Railway Station and sets out the implications and potential next steps. 1.2 The report also provides Cabinet with an update on a set of planned improvements to enhance the Station in the short-term which the Council is implementing in partnership with Staffordshire County Council, West Midlands Rail and West Midlands Trains. 2 Recommendation(s) 2.1 That Cabinet notes the Strategic Outline Business Case (SOBC) for the transformational upgrade of Cannock Railway Station as attached at Appendix 1. 2.2 That Cabinet agrees that Options A and C as set out in the SOBC should be selected as the two shortlisted options to be developed further. 2.3 That Cabinet authorises the Head of Economic Prosperity in consultation with the Portfolio Leader for Economic Development and Planning, to work in partnership with West Midlands Rail Executive and Staffordshire County Council to develop the Outline Business Case and delegate authority to the Head of Economic Prosperity to decide on the timing and procurement strategy for this work. 2.4 That Cabinet authorises the Head of Economic Prosperity in consultation with the Head of Finance and the Portfolio Leader for Economic Development and Planning to submit relevant bids for external funding to secure investment to support the upgrade of the Station. -

I have deleted some of the listings in the index as I consider it is unlikely they will be opening by the time of your stay, but others that are for time being closed, I have kept in as I am guessing there is a chance they might open up. Some of the attractions have been open throughout the lockdown (eg Manifold Valley, others are opening up in July and I have indicated those whose administrators have given no indication of when they are opening up. I have also added the web site details in view of their being no leaflets as such in the cottage. 1 Chase line electrification Stakeholder briefing pack • Saturday 10 June • Sundays from 11 June to 30 July What is happening? Network Rail are working to electrify the line between Walsall and Rugeley. Electric trains are quieter, faster and will provide more frequent services and extra seats between Staffordshire and the West Midlands. Work will likely continue throughout 2017. The dates we currently have confirmed for works are: • Saturday 10 June • Sundays from 11 June to 30 July. • Sunday 13 until Monday 28 August • Sundays from 17 September to 1 October. Further dates are also likely. This pack covers the works taking place at weekends during June and July. During these works, rail replacement buses will call at all stations between Tame Bridge Parkway and Rugeley Trent Valley A further briefing pack will issued to cover our arrangements for the closure in August and later works during September and October. 2 Service timetable - Saturday 10 June 3 Service timetable - Sundays from 11 June to 30 July 4 Replacement bus service information Tame Bridge Parkway Bescot Buses will pick up / drop Buses will pick up / drop off on Bescot Crescent, off by the green railings in outside the car park the car park, outside the station. PRESERVED COACHING STOCK OF BRITISH RAILWAYS October/November 2002 AMENDMENT SHEET NUMBER 59 SPECIAL AND CHARTER TRAIN COACHING STOCK A) WESSEX TRAINS The loan of Mark 1 RBR 1659 to the Mid-Hants Railway has now ceased, its place being taken by the Mid- Hants Railways own RBR 1961. Initially RBR 1659 has moved to the Lancastrian Carriage & Wagon Company premises at Heysham for attention. It will then join the other of the companies mainline carriages based at Old Oak Common. B) RIVIERA TRAINS The company has leased a further nine vehicles from HSBC Rail (UK), these are Mark 2Es TSOs 5773, 5905 and BSO 9503 and Mark 2Fs RRB 1260, TSOs 5976, 6064, 6067, 6157 and BSO 9520. All retain Virgin Trains livery but the branding is being removed prior to use. This brings the total Mark 2DEF leased to twenty- eight carriages. Mark 2F RFB 1200 that has already been painted in the companies Oxford Blue & Cream livery has now been named ‘AMBER’. Mark 1 FK 13227 and Mark 2A TSOs 5331, 5381 and 5386 previously based at Crewe have been taken out of service and stored. Along with Mark 1 RB 1691 and Mark 2A TSO 5345 already stored at Crewe these have been moved to the MoD site at Kineton for storage. RB 1691 has subsequently been sold (see below). Mark 2B TSO 5447 previously stored at The Railway Age Crewe is now located at Crewe Carriage Shed. This consultation seeks views on draft regulations concerning the interoperability of the railways. These regulations are necessary to meet the requirements of the Interoperability Directive 2008/57/EC which recast earlier versions and the deadline for implementation was 19 July 2010. The recast Directive contained new provisions for type authorisation of vehicles. It also has provisions for the reauthorisation process for vehicles authorised in another Member State which have been moved from the 2004 Safety Directive into the Interoperability Directive. ii.) The draft regulations will implement the Directive for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The reauthorisation of vehicles for the UK half of the Channel Tunnel are dealt with in bi-national safety regulations. All other requirements in the Directive in relation to the Tunnel will be implemented through these draft interoperability regulations. iii.) This consultation builds on two earlier rounds of consultation which were published by the Department in 2009 and 2010. -

The Railcar Association Bulletin January 2013 Introduction Understandably there are a few less contributions in the news section this edition, as many have been busy over the lead up to Christmas and New Year, your editor has balanced this slightly with a meatier-than-usual report from their own railway! There is also plenty in the gallery section to view showing our steeds in action over 2012. Thank you to everyone who took part in the “Railcar of the Year” award, and congratulations to a certain single coach vehicle which won. It was interesting to see that four of the five of the nominations were single units, a sign of the continued popularity of these useful and self contained vehicles. Hopefully 2013 will bring good fortune to all those involved in the DMU movement. The year ahead looks to be just as exciting as ever with several vehicles tipped for a return to traffic, including one which should allow us to ride on its class for the first time since the 1990’s. It is pleasing to see another DMU event join the calendar this year, at the Ecclesbourne Valley during August. It will be the first time since the 2009 railcar convention that their extensive fleet will all be in action at once, so will be an event not to be missed. 2013 Convention The organisers are requesting expressions of interest for the driver experiences, including preferences for the 117, 122 or both.
