March 2-3 Women’s Field: Emily Brown, Ohio Wesleyan Ohio Wesleyan senior Emily Brown (New Concord, OH/John Glenn) became the first Bishop to win the NCAC Wom- Wabash Championship Website en’s Indoor Track & Field pentathlon since 2012 after accumulating 3,135 points in the event last weekend at Denison. 2018 NCAC Indoor T&F Pre-Championship Coaches’ Poll The 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held this weekend, March Recent Results 2-3, at the Johnson Track/Knowling Fieldhouse on the campus of Wabash College in Crawfordsville, . The Oberlin women are seeking to win the league title for the second year in a row, while the OWU men are in search of their third- NCAC Heptathlon/Pentathlon straight title and 12th overall. Both squads have been selected as the favorites heading into this year’s meet based on hosted by pre-championship balloting by the league coaches. Granville, Ohio Oberlin was the unanimous pick to win the 2018 NCAC Indoor Track & Field women’s title after collecting all eight first- Feb. 24-25 place votes cast by the league coaches for 64 total points, while Ohio Wesleyan was picked second in the poll with 56 points. Allegheny checked in at third with 48 points, followed by Wittenberg (38), Kenyon (32), Wooster (23), Denison Men’s Results - Women’s Results (16) and DePauw (11). Men’s Heptathlon Champion The Yeowomen, under the direction of 14th-year head coach Ray Appenheimer, are in prime position to defend their league title with several athletes entering the championship meet with a top-five mark in the NCAC in either a running or Nate Newman, OWU - 4,776 Points field event. The Yeowomen’s throwing contingent will once again be the focal point of the squad in the field events, led by the senior duo of Monique Newton (Sacramento, CA/Rancho Cordova) and Ana Richardson (Eugene, OR/South). Women’s Pentathlon Champion Newton enters the meet with not only the NCAC’s top mark in the shot put, but also the second-best performance in the Emily Brown, OWU - 3,135 Points event this season in the country with a heave of 48’02.75” at the CWRU Spartan Holiday Classic back on December 2nd, while Richardson holds the league’s top mark and the nation’s fourth-best showing in the weight throw with a toss of 60’05.00” at the Ohio State Buckeye Tune-Up on February 16th. Newton also ranks second in the NCAC in the weight throw at 58’07.25” and Richardson is fifth overall in the shot put at 40’09.75”, while sophomore teammate Naeisha McClain (Columbus, GA/Brookstone) ranks second in the shot put (43’05.00”) and sixth overall in the weight throw (50’11.05”). On the track, the Yeowomen have a good balance of runners between the sprint and distance events, led by senior Lilah Drafts-Johnson (Melrose, CA/Melrose) holding the NCAC’s top seed time in both the 200 (26.05) and 400 (57.77). She is joined in the sprinting events by junior Imani Cook-Gist (Santa Monica, CA/Harvard Westlake) who owns the league’s top time this season in the 60 at 7.92 seconds and sits second behind Drafts-Johnson in the 200 with a time of 26.56. Finally, Oberlin will turn to junior Linnea Halsten (Madison, WI/East) and sophomore Shannon Wargo (Lagrange, OH/Keystone) in the distance events, with Halsten holding the top spot in the NCAC in the 5,000 (17:08.87) Saturday, February 24 and Wargo owning the league’s top time in the mile (5:09.58). MEN Anderson Fred Wilt Invitational (NTS) In the men’s pre-championship coaches’ poll, Ohio Wesleyan earned six of the possible first-place votes cast for 78 total points, while Wabash garnered the final three first-place votes and finished second overall with 73 total points. Allegheny DePauw & Wabash finished third in the poll with 62 points, followed by Wittenberg (54), DePauw (47), Oberlin (36), Denison (25), Wooster (20) and Kenyon (10). WOMEN Under the direction of 16th-year head coach Kris Boey, the OWU men’s squad enters the championship meet with the Anderson Fred Wilt Invitational (NTS) NCAC’s top mark in four different individual events and one relay event, highlighted by senior Nate Newman (Chillicothe, DePauw OH/Zane Trace) owning the top mark this season in the NCAC in the long jump at 21’09.00”. The Bishops will also look to rack up key points in both throwing events with the emergence of freshman Cade Richeson (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) this season. He enters the meet with the top mark in the NCAC in the shot put at 54’07.25”, which is nearly Friday, February 23 nine inches better than the next closest competitor, while his mark of 48’00.75” ranks seventh overall in the weight throw. MEN On the track, sophomore Ryan Lesmez (Arlington, VA/Yorktown) owns the NCAC’s top time this season in the mile at Denison Last Chance Meet (NTS) 4:17.05, while sophomore Tommy Davis (Clyde, OH/Clyde) ranks seventh in the 200 (23.18), 14th in the 400 (52.71) - Allegheny, Denison, Kenyon, Oberlin, and 18th in the 60 (7.32). In addition to Davis, the OWU men hold the top-two seed times in the men’s 60-meter dash, with freshman Marquis Sena (Bronx, NY/Institute for Math & Science) topping the field with a time of 7.02 seconds Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg & Wooster and junior Delontaye Morrow (Medina, OH/Medina) sitting second in 7.09 seconds. The first scoring events of the 2018 meet, the men’s Heptathlon and the women’s Pentathlon, took place last weekend WOMEN at Denison. Ohio Wesleyan swept the titles over the weekend with Nate Newman taking home the men’s title for the Denison Last Chance Meet (NTS) third year in a row with 4,776 points, while senior Emily Brown (New Concord, OH/John Glenn) earned the women’s - Allegheny, Denison, Kenyon, Oberlin, crown with 3,135 points. Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg & Wooster TICKET PRICES: The prices for admission to the 2018 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are $5 for adults, $3 for children (18 and under), while NCAC students with a valid student ID are admitted for free. A two-day pass is also available -- $10 for adults and $6 for children (18 and under).
