It’s History The OSAA began in 1918 when administrators from 36 schools recognized a need for an organization to coordinate and regulate high school interscholastic competition. Thus the Oregon State High School Athletic Association was formed. The name was changed in 1947 to reflect the inclusion of activities outside of traditional athletics.

Mission Statement The mission of the OSAA is to serve member schools by providing leadership and state coordination for the conduct of interscholastic activities, which will enrich the educational experiences of high school students. The OSAA will Mark Witty Heidi Sipe Sherry Duerst-Higgins work to promote interschool activities that provide equitable participation Superintendent Superintendent School Board Umatilla SD opportunities, positive recognition and learning experiences to students, Baker SD Lane County ESD 6A/5A/4A At-Large 3A/2A/1A At-Large OSBA while enhancing the achievement of educational goals.

What the OSAA Does Much like the NCAA at the collegiate level, the OSAA regulates the eligibility and competition of all high school students in the state. This includes everything from determining which league a school will compete in to sponsoring and administering state championships.

Funding As a private, non‐profit organization, the OSAA does not receive any state funding. Revenue is generated from three sources: school membership fees,

199 LOST RIVER (MERRILL) TEAMWORK. RESPONSIBILITY. ACCOMPLISHMENT.

Whether students are shooting for the hoop, singing in choir, marching in time or aiming for the end zone, they are practicing skills that will serve them well in school, on the job and in life.

Les Schwab is proud of the players and performers of the OSAA. We believe in supporting students as they learn about commitment, hard work and serving the community — values the company believes in. We’re glad to be a title sponsor of the OSAA, helping students get the chance to participate in the state playoffs and championships.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE AND FOR SUPPORTING OUR GREAT YOUNG PEOPLE.

Oregon School Activities Association www.osaa.org My Team They are like my second family.

After practices, we all go out to eat together. On weekends, we meet up to ride bikes or swim.

And when we play, it’s not for the people up in the stands. It’s not for the victory. It’s just for us.

17-1909_GST_High_School_Program_Ad_FNL.indd 1 9/20/17 11:13 AM ssion PI never hada a singing lesson, but high school choir taught me I could accomplish anything if I was passionate.

Passion cannot be forced or taught. It comes from within and is what drives me to become a better musician.

Choir allows me to create something that is beautiful, bigger and beyond myself.

ALEXIS Y. Student from Columbus, OH | Choir, Volleyball
