Certificate in Egyptology Two Certificates in Egyptology are available: one focuses on reading and interpreting hieroglyphs and ancient Egyptian texts (Language), and the other on the study of ancient Egyptian culture and history through artefacts and sites (Material Culture). As a grounding for both Certificates, you choose from a suite of courses at level one designed to introduce various individual aspects of ancient Egyptian culture - art, archaeology, history, language and religion. At level two, you begin to specialise either in language or material culture. As an optional final step, you may design your own short research project in the area of Egyptology of your choice. The Certificates in Egyptology can be completed in three to four years (subject to course availability), but no time limit is imposed. The 2014-15 courses which provide credits towards this Certificate are listed below and are linked to further course information. To view all of the Certificate of Higher Education courses available in 2014-15, please look at the course brochure Other courses which may be taken as part of the Certificate in Egyptology but which are not running in 2014-15, are shown below in grey.
