Canoe Slalom
Tokyo 2020 media guide – canoe slalom Canoe slalom at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre July 25 – 30, 2021 CANOE SLALOM – A BEGINNER’S GUIDE The course contains 18–25 gates, each gate comprised of two hanging poles. The downstream gates are coloured green and the upstream gates are red. Competitors must navigate their boat down the course without touching the gate. As a guide, there will be either six or eight upstream gates. If the competitor's boat, paddle or body touches either pole of the gate, a time penalty of two seconds is added. If the competitor misses a gate, a 50-second penalty is given. The penalty seconds are then added to the time it took the competitor to complete the course to provide an overall time. In kayak, the competitor is seated and uses a double-bladed paddle, paddling on alternate sides. In canoe, the competitor uses a single-bladed paddle and sits with legs bent at the knees and tucked under the body, paddling on either the left or right side. In the Olympic Games, each competitor completes two runs in the qualification round and the faster time of the two runs gives the qualification result. The fastest time from the two heats runs for each athlete determines who will progress to the semi-final. The number of athletes in the semi-finals for each event is as follows: Men’s canoe: 15 Women’s kayak: 24 Women’s canoe: 18 Men’s kayak: 20 The ten fastest semi-finalists will compete in the final, and the ranking and the medallists will be determined based on their finals run alone.

Appendix 1 London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Limited 14 November 2012 Tickets Page 1 Introduction The London 2012 ticketing programme was the largest and potentially most complex ticketing operation undertaken in this country. Over 11 million tickets for 963 Olympic and Paralympic sessions were available, at a range of price points and, as a result, over 4,000 different ticket ‘products’ were sold across 26 Olympic and 20 Paralympic sports, and four Ceremonies. Objectives Right from the outset, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) set out its commitments and aims of the Olympic and Paralympic Ticketing programme which were: to raise over £500 million towards the cost of staging the Games; to fill our venues; and to offer affordable and accessible tickets. These commitments were met. Tickets Stats In total 10.99 million tickets were sold out of a total 11.3 million tickets available. 8.21 million of these tickets were Olympic Games tickets and 2.78 million were Paralympic Tickets. A total of £659 million was raised for LOCOG’s operating budget to stage the Games. 319,000 tickets (263,000 Olympic and 55,000 Paralympic) were unsold, the majority of these being early rounds for Olympic Football. 76.3% of all Olympic and 91% of all Paralympic tickets were sold through the UK application process against a target of 75%. This amounted to an unprecedented 8.8 million tickets sold (6.24 million Olympic and 2.53 million Paralympic through the UK application process. Highlights include: 33 consecutive morning and evening Athletics sessions sold out – this has never happened at a previous Games 1.9 million Football tickets sold – the biggest Football tournament ever seen in the UK 278,000 tickets were sold for Handball – a sport which had never sold a commercial ticket before in this country.

The PE and Sports Magazine for Jack Hunt School December 2015 Our annual Sports Awards Evening held on Thursday 12 November celebrated a fantastic year of sport, showcasing the many achievements of students from Year 6 to Year 13. Jack Hunt staff and students were delighted to be joined by members of our partner primary schools who had also nominated students who had excelled in sport this year. Special guest, Olympic Gold Medallist, Tim Baillie was invited to present the awards before sharing his journey to Olympic Gold at the London 2012 Games. Tim represented GB at the U23 World championships before deciding to switch to the double canoe where he teamed up with Etienne Stott. After a disappointing Beijing Olympics in 2008 they changed the way they trained and adopted the mantra – ‘Behave professionally in everything you do, make the best of every situation and train to be your best’. Their hard work paid off when they won Gold in 2012. Two of the school’s most prestigious awards – ‘The Linda Dingle Award for the Best Higher Sports Leader’ was won by Summaya Manji (Year 13) for her leadership and volunteer work in both Jack Hunt School and the local community. ‘The Best Sports Person in the Junior Athlete Education (JAE) Programme’ was won by Jamie Scholes (Year 11) who has taken a step up from being a National finalist in swimming to achieving his first International selection this year. Not only does he spend many hours training and competing, but Jamie has also completed the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award which requires 6 months of community volunteering.
