INSIDE UCLA ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT YOUR MONTHLY RESOURCE FOR SUPPORTING UCLA ATHLETICS AND THE WOODEN ATHLETIC FUND FEBRUARY 2017 “THANK YOU” FROM THE BRUINS MADISON KOCIAN Women’s Gymnastics • Freshman 2016 Olympic Gold & Silver Medalist “I'm blessed to be a part of the Bruin family. The pride I feel walking out onto the competition floor with those four letters across my back fills my heart with joy. I have so much respect for the athletic donors and all of their contributions to the UCLA athletic program. Their generous donations and support give me the opportunity to succeed both athletically and academically. I represented USA at the Olympic Games in Rio last summer, and I'm equally as honored to represent UCLA and the athletic donors that make this dream possible.” CLICK HERE TO SUPPORT UCLA WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS BENEFIT OF THE MONTH WAF Appreciation Gymnastics Meet – February 11, 2017 As an exclusive thank you for your generous support of UCLA’s student-athletes as a Wooden Athletic Fund Member, UCLA Athletics is pleased to offer you up to four (4) complimentary tickets to a UCLA Gymnastics meet. The Wooden Athletic Fund has set its sights on a new milestone in support of UCLA's student-athletes: 10,000 WAF members. All UCLA alumni, friends and fans are invited to join us in pursuit of this new goal to help UCLA's student-athletes succeed in the classroom, in competition and in the community. As a special incentive through this 10K CHAMP10NS campaign, all current Wooden Athletic Fund members are encouraged to refer a friend to join the Wooden Athletic Fund for $100 by simply providing their friend’s email address via the referral website. That current WAF member who provided a friend’s email address will then be entered to win the monthly prize. For example, if you referred a friend during the month of January, you were automatically entered to win the prize for the month of January: an exclusive UCLA Men’s Basketball Experience for four (4). If a new donor joins WAF and specifies a current WAF member as their reason for joining, the referring donor will also receive an Adidas WAF member hat. The winner of the January 10K CHAMP10NS Experience is Mark Arban from Irvine, California. A hearty ‘Congratulations’ goes out to Mark! The January 10K CHAMP10NS Experience that Mark just won included: • Four (4) tickets to UCLA vs. Oregon State on February 12 at 2pm in Pauley Pavilion • One (1) Valet Parking Pass • UCLA Men’s Basketball Adidas Package For the month of February, the prize for the 10K CHAMP10NS challenge will be: • Four (4) Suite Passes to UCLA Baseball’s Dodgertown Classic on March 5, 2017 at Dodger Stadium. The pregame event brought together alumni from all intercollegiate sports across many decades of play, with the purpose of reconnecting former student-athletes with fellow alumni. Complimentary game tickets were provided to all reception attendees as an added exclusive benefit of Bruin Varsity Club membership. After being presented with a framed commemorative photo by Chancellor Gene Block and Athletic Director Dan Guerrero, Kareem spoke to the crowd about not only the importance athletics had in his life, but stressed how his UCLA education gave him the tools necessary to meet the challenges he has faced during his lifetime. It was a fitting tribute to one of the most accomplished individuals UCLA has ever produced. CLICK HERE TO SEE A VIDEO FROM KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR DAY GET TO KNOW YOUR WAF STAFF! UCLA will hopefully once again sign some of the premier student-athletes from California and around the country. Please keep in mind the following: Can a UCLA donor contact a prospect or his/her parents after the signing of an NLI? No. A booster may not call, text or email a prospect or his/her parents even if the purpose of the call is only to congratulate the prospect on signing. This restriction also applies to social media websites such as Facebook or Twitter. Boosters may not initiate or accept “friend” requests of prospects on Facebook and should never post to a recruit’s “wall,” reply to a “tweet,” send them any type of direct message, or take any other action that would constitute contacting that recruit. If a prospect visits UCLA on an official or unofficial visit after signing a National Letter of Intent, can a donor then contact that prospect during the visit? No. Regardless of whether the prospect is visiting UCLA on an official or unofficial visit, a booster is not permitted to contact the prospect on or off-campus. Employing Prospects A UCLA donor may not employ or arrange employment opportunities prospects or his/her family or friends. However, after a prospect signs his or her National Letter of Intent with UCLA, a donor may assist UCLA coaches or staff in finding a prospect employment in the summer prior to enrolling at UCLA. Questions about the above or NCAA rules? Asking the Compliance Office questions related to what you can and cannot do is the best way to protect UCLA and our student-athletes.
