8 Open Gardens Weekend The weather during the Open Gardens weekend was rather mixed with the Saturday being cloudy and windy, but dry. Sunday started similarly, but at the crucial hour, just after lunch, the heavens opened and we had to watch a number of visitors drive into the car park and drive out again. However, the hardy that braved the rain were rewarded with a glorious end to the afternoon. Over the whole weekend sixteen people were kind enough to open their gardens to the public and our impression is that they thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting to their visitors. In all we had about 420 paying visitors, most of whom were from outside the Village. As visitors returned to the car park, we received comment after comment about the quality and variety of the gardens and of the enthusiasm and Tae Kwon-Do friendliness of the garden owners. Exercise With A Difference In all from gate receipts, plant sales, teas, craft stalls and vintage cars on show, slightly over £2,000 was raised Monday & Thursday for the Church, of which the P.C.C. has Ashford War Memorial Institute decided to donate £500 to the Thomhill House Benevolent Fund.
