LOCATED alongside the Derwent River some 36km north of Hobart, the mill produced Australia’s first newsprint on February 22, 1941 and was the first newsprint producer in the world to successfully make newsprint. Total paper production over the past 65 years exceeds 10 million tonnes, worth around $10 billion in today’s dollars. The mill has two paper machines that have been substantially upgraded over the years and produce more than 290,000 tonnes per annum.
